Another, Another Bryce Breakdown

A throwaway is usually okay with me, like a punt. Live to fight on the next play. But he kind of took it to another level, throwing it away on 3rd down. At least throw deep enough that if picked at least it’s like a punt. Somebody might catch it, which OB is automatic DOA give up.

I try and picture good things but in my head it looks like last season to me, which is sort of how I pictured things all along.

Nah, he’s got plenty but when you’re playing slow in your mind you look slow on the field. You have to be decisive and not hesitate

That’s something that stood out to me with Bryce in college. No urgency. That was for sure going to carry over into his pro game. ‘live to see another down’ is fine when you’re playing at Alabama where you’re always going to get the ball back but that’s not the case in the NFL

From the first episode of the blueprint, Canales seems obsessive about the +/- turnover margin.  I'm afraid it won't bode well for Bryce being more aggressive with the football.

Bryce certainly proved to be more durable than most anticipated but.....that's not a long term success strategy. Doesn't matter how tough you are, those hits take a toll.

He needs to learn to play smarter and avoid contact like a lot of the smaller NFL QB's do. 

He had a sack / being hit problem in college too, led the draft class with at fault sacks and at fault sack %.

I never heard that before the draft.

I just don't think Bryce should start if you are going to keep him & actually develop him be patient & let him be the backup for now while he works on his mechanics & footwork  hopefully put on a little more weight etc.

I posted it in the lead up to the draft on one of the threads. It’s one of the main reasons along with his arm and size that had him as my 3rd qb in the draft.

I looked at his size and said this is the modern NFL,  off my board. Then I said well let’s look at his arm. I watched his pro day and saw stuff in his mechanics and footwork that were pretty clear to me, and I am no scout, but it was enough to say please don’t take him.

Now I am supposed to be positive about him. Lemon to lemonade?

I think that it was almost entirely sports related & the pressures of being a well known athlete while at Alabama

That pro day was so bland. Everyone in the media was like, good enough! Deep balls against air were not impressive whatsoever

Actually, he didn't throw any real deep balls in his pro day.  I think the longest I remember seeing was about 45 yards in the air.  Not sure how we could see Stroud, Richardson and Levis in the same week we saw Bryce and conclude that his arm was anything but the 4th best in the class.

That would explain the no throws at the combine. That was a bigger red flag than the vanilla pro day. He didn't want to get his velocity clocked at 50mph when the others were throwing 60
