From the ground up: How the Panthers are retooling Bryce Young's footwork to slow down time

Excited if this is how his usage plays out on game-day.  While there are questions about his ability as a receiver to run routes and get open consistently, I don't question his athleticism or physicality.  He could play that Deebo role for us while he develops at receiver.

When you think about what DC has said about getting the ball out in 2.7 secs, this makes sense.

1st or 2nd read then check down.

XL is going to be that check down option a good bit of the time.

They need that non-RB option. Someone fast and big.

It will take a few years for him to become a route runner if he’s capable of that.

Bryce won’t need to be a superstar in Dave’s system. He said he wants to run the ball and they drafted a kid who knows how to do it. The line has been up-graded and so has the weapons around Bryce. If Bryce doesn’t look significantly better in this system I’ll be shocked

They said the same thing about Darnold lol, QB has to be legit or nothing else works on offense

I like Darnold a whole lot better. He has some upside because his tools are there. I don’t know what Bryce has. Hopefully a great scheme with a superior running game.

It all sounds like more ways to clog up an already stacked box. If Young can't hit deeper more often then it's just more ways to get to 4th down.

It has to happen.

Imagine trading up to #1 overall to draft a physically limited QB who has to have his mechanics rebuilt from the ground up.

Oh wee mayne.

You think other QBs aren’t working on their footwear right now? Yall latch on to agendas and ride them into the ground. Don’t know how you’ll manage to celebrate in success with Bryce this year.

Footwear? LOL

Sure, everyone is working on refining their game. Bryce has to rebuild his. There's a difference.

It's funny to call it "latching onto an agenda". All the things I was dragged about leading up to the draft last year about expressing concerns about Bryce and his physical tools and limitations in his game played out on the field last year. The folks latching onto an agenda are the ones who are still trying to convince themselves that his super processing abilities are going to be enough to make up for the long list of physical limitations and footwork that exacerbates them.

He has to rebuild his game from the ground up. That's the reality. I hope he can pull it off. That's what would be the best for the Panthers. But I'd be lying if I said I expected it to happen. The most likely situation is that we're all talking 2025 QB prospects by Halloween.

This year it will be a win win for us.  Bryce either gets his poo together or we will have a brand new signal caller we can be excited about.

Not saying it is the 2024 Panthers but it is possible to move the LOS vs that if you are built to do it.

It leaves the other half of the field vulnerable and if you can't attack that enoufh then it's going to be an uphill battle. It's like playing in the red zone all the time. It's the entire primise of bend but don't break was get them to a short field you have a chance at defending.

    • We could easily pick apart yesterday’s game: dropped passes, blown coverages, bad tackling and red zone issues to name a few. But it was clear that this wasn’t the same team from earlier in the season. They fought back and hung with the champs until the end. That’s what I was excited to see and it gives me hope that we’re on the right track.
    • I think BY played well today and exceeded expectations. I will temper future expectations as he has to string together many games of consistent quality. One game doesn’t convince me that he is a franchise QB or even a guy you want to stick with for another season. One game doesn’t erase all the negative play and limitations from the past couple of years. I hope he balls out and continues to get better but for me the verdict is still out   That said, I think he gave the team and fans hope yesterday which is a lot more than what we had when we woke up Sunday morning.
    • He was vastly improved today and we need to see more of Bryce the rest of the season to continue evaluate him in order to decide what the heck to do with him at the end of the season. He must play at least like this and improve more from here the rest of the season in order for me to keep him. No more 123 yard passing games and want to see at least this output weekly from him. If this is Bruce improving slowly over time then Canales is even better with developing QB's than I thought he was but still too early to tell and we need to see him the rest of the way as he has at very least earned back the starting gig moving forward.
