Where does Moton rate among the all time CAR o-line players?

Cant think of a better RT in team history. Jeff Otah is problem the only one that would have had insane potential to overtake Moton.

I think when on the field, Otah was the most dominant RT we have seen in a Panther uniform.

I mean, people were much harsher here on Otah than they are Horn.

Tough to ignore Turner's 5 straight bowl seasons though.  2 of those 5 featured Paradis and Larsen at C.  And multiple seasons with Daryl Wiliams at RT beside him.

More I think about it, in my ranking I'd probably make Moton a push with Turner.  Drop my boy Wharton down to 5.

Kalil, Gross, Turner/Moton, Wharton.

I know it's not the end all be all but Moton has had a better PFF Grade over his entire career compared to Turner's 5 pro bowl seasons

Moton - Career average over 6 seasons - 75.96

Turner's Best 5 seasons average - 70.1 (and that's with his last season included where he didn't deserve the pro bowl and graded out 63.9)

In fact Moton's worst year was comparable to Turner's Career average (69.3 to 70.1).

Moton has been more consistent and has been better all but one year in comparison.

You know it might be so long ago but I remember Brockermeyer and Matt Campbell being solid in the 90s.

I think a lot of people forget just how solid Jeff Mitchell, Kevin Donnalley, and Todd Stuessie were. In 2003 the OL only allowed like 25 sacks for the whole year.

Wharton was severely underrated and Whale was good for a bit.

Moton is probably Top 5, but I'm not so sure how much of that is because everything around him has been horrible so it's made him look significantly better. I really wish we would have moved him to LT back when.

That line was exceptional. We do have recency bias about that.

We have had better offensive linemen than we probably think. Not consistently enough.

true.  But I personally view RT is the easiest spot on the line in terms of pass protection.    I think terms of how teams want to attack an OL.  RT is last place they prioritize.  Pressure up the middle and the QBs blindside IMO is where they look to go.

That's just a CRA gut take of how I view things.... and have no clue if the stats would actually back that up.

I think Pass rushing has evolved over the past decade or so, and you will see guys moved all over formations based on defensive looks and matchups. The best Pass rushers in the league don't stay on one side anymore, they get moved around to create better matchups and stunt from down to down. Myles Garret spent 366 snaps on the right side (LT) and 334 on the Left side (RT) back in 2020 (Quickest and easiest googling I could find on the subject). That's pretty even, and he's not the only one. Micah Parsons, TJ Watt, JJ Watt, etc. all move or moved around throughout the games. Strictly blindside rushers aren't really a thing anymore.

I think as offenses have gotten quicker and the college schemes have arrived, attacking the Gs and interior has become a bigger priority.  Prioritizing disrupting the QB before he gets the quick pass off.

Otah could’ve been one of the best Uglies we've ever had. What a disappointment.

Moton is third on my list behind Kalil and Gross.

If he were on the Cowboys, Chiefs, or 49ers he'd be getting pro bowl nods and accolades every single year. He's arguably the most underrated O-Lineman in the league.

If you never hear their name, an o-lineman is doing his job. I agree that if he played in a bigger market he'd get a lot more love.

iirc he played hurt last year.  I'd love to extend him,  but I guess we're watching the cap with the amount we committed to G this year, with Derrick and possibly Horn getting paid soon.

With Horn I would gladly over pay... via the TAG.

I would take his 5th year option and TAG and TAG again. Dude is a monster but I dont want to pay for a monster with as few starts as he has.

    • 5-12. Bryce Young- hoping for the best but prepared for the worst.  I think we could end up seeing a lot of Dalton this year.
    • Yeah, kinda how a few of us predicted every game would look like Alabama vs Texas where he was actually under NFL style pressure.
