This team is mostly made up of other team’s rejects.

Derek Brown is our only blue chip player.

You can’t win with a roster like that.

Years of bad drafting and bad trades have caught up.

Truth - the only way to change that is drafting better trading smarter.  The whole thing is still series of bell curves.  People gotta realize "worst to first" takes a few years in preparation or incredibly lucky circumstances.  We will be a few years from shoring up the foundations of the franchise, but it starts with 1 great draft class.  This one could legitimately be it....or not.

Truth. And the bad drafting detracts, we have no interesting guys outside players would really want to come in and play with.  Seems like Evero was able to get some from the Rams & Broncos Ds, but that's about it...and it's not like they're world beaters (although, I think Jewell & Fuller are low key for us)

We're getting players via a few ways:

1- Throw enough money/more than others need to

2- We land a discard

3- A somewhat decent starter uses us as a bridge situation to get a good stat year and sign elsewhere

4- Trade

Yes, but that might get you one or two above average players.

You need more than that to win.

You need a guy at each key position that you would never trade or let go.

Oh I agree, I’m saying those 4 bullet points are what we’re limited to due to the poor construction.

Sounds like a good guy and he's going to have to do a job like Carroll did with Seattle when he went into that trainwreck.

This season is about salvaging the blocks to build a foundation. I hope he can do that because from where we're sitting the cupboard is just about bare.

2003 looked like a crap team of cast offs for us, too. And 2015 we lost our leading receiver in the offseason and had an o-line and receiving corps made of cast offs and never wases.

Maybe he'll find that old magic. Or maybe make some of his own.

Me, I just want to see something sturdy being built, and see a gritty, mauling defense paired with a smash mouth running game.

I guess we will see if the ted lasso coaching model succeeds in the nfl.   Its great he is positive about our position as a franchise and team in general but its simply going to come down to getting bryce to play better and out scheming other coaches

What's the "ted lasso coaching model"? I see it referenced a lot on but I never saw the show..isn't it a comedy about a soccer coach? Just curious what the reference is about.

I hope he works out. But I'm just so jaded by shitty Tepper hires at this point that I'm not going down the road of trying to convince myself it's going to work. I'm just gonna wait and see what takes the field and how his staff makes adjustments. We'll see.

....thats how I feel... but really uninterested right now because of the Dipper effect. 6 hard loosing seasons with an assured 7th regardless of how good Canales is. We've had so much smoke blown up our azz's its coming out our mouths. Its a damn shame how hes totally destroyed the pride of what it means to be a Panthers fan.... I'll watch to see if there might be a spark of redemption but I'll tell ya, im beyond jaded.

It's a show that's good enough to buy the Apple+ subscription for. One of the best sitcoms of the last 20 years.

One out my many questions about canales was why didn't Pete or Seahawks make him the OC?? I've seen many reports that he was viewed highly among them.....Pete even only wanted to hear his voice for certain situations. But in what 19 years(?) he got picked over for some rams dude. Just odd.

Then he finally gets the memo and heads out to TB and the first half of the season its looking B-A-D. SO bad the Panthers nearly beat them if only young could have scored a couple points....

Panthers were the only team to interview him, ugh I need to stress eat......

Maybe no one wanted to go to coach the Panthers also.....

Sounds like reality. Didn't Seatle also not interview him for their opening?

The best I member was he did interview for the OC job, again why since he's been there 17=/- years?? Rams had already been picked over for years as well.

It reminded me of one of my old friends that worked for IBM. Hed been there for 7 years and the perfect employee during. Then comes a big promotion available and all signs point to him. NOPE, it goes to some new guy that's was only there for 18 months and he was below my friend. I never thought of it, but we meet at a bar and he's like " Time for me to leave". Within the week he got some job offer in Atlanta @ 30% more than current pay and he took it. I finally understood " know your worth with this ".  Just you never know what a company thruthfully thinks. He thinks they view him as a "lifer" and "Loyal" no matter, so it didn't matter......but it DID. Miss that dude and house sitting in one of those elite areas.

I like the things he's saying the new car smell vibe and the fact that he's a young coach that hopefully will be easy to adapt to different things. But none of that matters if he isn't getting it done scheming against making adjustments against and generally coaching well against other teams and their staff on gamedays. That is all that matters. That's the type of stuff I need to see by midseason.

    • What I really learned here is that the Carolina Panthers aren't anywhere near as bad as I initially thought they were earlier this year.  We've got a young and growing offense with some promising parts. But it still needs some tweaks and improvements.  We really still could still use a dominant #1 WR. But Chubba,  Legette, Coker,  and J.Sanders have generally looked decent. Bryce took a big leap after the benching. We can score enough points to keep pace with 2x defending super bowl champions, so offense isn't a huge issue. Main thing that needs improvement is defense. We sorely need a CB 2, and a number of new players at Dline and LB.  We're not quite as bad at edge with Wonnum showing promise.  But we definitely need 1 or 2 more edges Clowney is old.  Run D is probably worse prevailing theme these past couple years. We really need a good young stud or two to pair with Derrick Brown and another LB to pair up with Trevin Wallace. If Morgan and Canales can focus on rebuilding the defense this off-season and possibly going out and getting a #1 WR. This team could easily be somewhere around 7-10 to 10-7 and flirting with playoffs in 1 or 2 seasons. Overall this game has made me feel alot more positive about the direction of the team.
    • With our picks we need pass rush, lb, Safety, a speedster yac wr, o line depth and I still want a mid round qb. We got 9 picks and 8 in the first 5 rounds. If they pull Off another solid draft we be cooking.
    • We had one passing touchdown against the Giants and one passing touchdown against the Chiefs today. Yes a good backup can replicate that. And that is why Andy Dalton in significantly less games has the same number of 30 point outings as Bryce Young. I am on board with you guys about wanting to be hopeful for the future. Today was a good performance to build on especially at home. But let's please keep things in perspective. BTW the Bucs who honestly aren't even that good blew the doors off the Giants today after we went to overtime against them with 17 points. Again. Perspective.
