Underdog 2nd year QB preview

Recommended Posts

He seriously needs to earn a third season as starter. Not saying release him, but right now it wouldn’t take much to beat him out going on what I have seen.

At least challenge him year three, if he wins the job, okay. If not  he can carry a clip board for a couple of more seasons.

I mean, I think the people would rejoice if we could reach the level of the interim Wilks/PJ/Sam Carolina Panthers this season.

Had we just stuck with that...

It was a bad decision from a team building decision to move on from Wilks.

It was a bad decision from a winning games perspective to move on from Wilks.

It was a bad decision purely based on karma.

Last year, hopefully, put the karmic balance back to even, or tipped it in our favor some.

I really wanted Wilks to stay here as HC, not gonna lie.

If Bryce Young was so bad, how was the mistake made to actually draft him?

I mean, Tepper has found a way to make us not only the worst NFL team but the worst team in all of professional sports.

I don't think Bryce Young is the actual mistake.  The mistake is what Tepper puts together.  Bryce was going to need a unique and innovative offense.  With talent to highlight what he does well.  Do that, and he could potentially be a great QB.   And they have clearly never had a vision to do that.  Just inserting him into bland offenses he doesn't fit....with talent weak in key areas he would play the most to.

I still go back to Cam.  He was OROY because we made a Cam centric O and had skill talent that played to his strengths.   In another spot, that just tried to plug him into what a coach liked and did....he could of been a disaster as a rookie.  Drastically different QBs, but share a uniqueness IMO that you have to acknowledge.

Where you go, has as much to do with your success in the NFL as anything else.  That's what the players say at least.

Because drafting is hard, especially at the QB position.  The same "mistake" the Panthers made was the exact same "mistake" the Texans had every intention of making had they picked first overall.

This get parroted and parroted and parroted when in reality you simply have no idea if that is true, what we do know if the texans wanted him they could have moved up with chicago and then chicago would have traded again with either us or indy

Regardless, Bryce Young would have fell no lower than 3rd overall.  My overall point still stands.  Teams miss on QBs all the team.  Do we deserve criticism for that?  Absolutely. However again the same mistake we made, another team (regardless of the team) would have made in the top 3.  Because finding a QB is hard and teams overdraft QBs every year.

BS. They clearly thought Stroud was at LEAST as good as Young or they wouldn't have stood pat, and wouldn't shock me at all if Stroud was the target all along.

The overwhelming majority of this board were swearing up and down the Texans wanted Young leading up to that draft because that's what all the reports and rumors said. Only a few of us said the Texans could be blowing smoke too and were shouted down. Did the Texans play the Panthers and the other QB needy teams that were looking to move up? Maybe. Were the Texans just happy to take either top QB? Maybe. But none of that matters now since it's in the past and each team has a QB they at least claim they wanted.

Carolina has been played more than once over the years in situations like this, so that's my cynical default assumption at this point. Not to say that other teams don't get played as well, but this is the only one who I prefer not fall for it...

Okay.  I don't care to argue about who the Texans preferred.  My point still stands.  Had the Panthers taken Stroud, Texans would have taken Young.  Either way a team was going to make the "mistake" because drafting QBs is hard.
