Hoover: Panthers in 'opportunity to fail'

Yeah, none of that was the product of his butthurt. It was a well thought out, eloquent statement lamenting the direction the team was headed, and not related to his own cut at all.

I'm supposing he would have said the same thing if he were still on the roster?

Like Chris Harris when everything was going down?

He probably was just butthurt too.

You guys realize that when Hoover said we might be setting ourselves up to fail, he was talking about cutting multiple vets and removing a big chunk of leadership at the same time? Not just switching fullbacks?

Ah, nm. ololol he's just an old fb ololol

Just Jake really.......and Carolina is much better w/o him. Hoover, Kemo, Lewis, Diggs imo were not great leaders. Probably very respected but....so are lots of other guys.

My first thought on Chris Harris speaking out was that he should stop ASAP before he finds himself on the way out the door. He's part of the new core of this team, and we can't have that going on. We need him to step up on the field and in the locker room. I'm not sure if he's capable of doing that after his tweets.

This team was running out of gas and it needed a shot in the arm. Anyone that doesn't want to be here after this offseason needs to gtfo because they're just bringing the rest of the team down no matter how talented they are.

That really is the issue which should debated. One player alone rarely defines a team and their loss won't doom it to fail either. Hoover was personally hurt I am sure and that is to be expected and it was a business decision. The real concern to the Panthers is really how many guys can you lose and still maintain your leadership. How many unproven guys are we looking to step up all at once. And if things go poorly like they did last year who will be there to steady the ship and keep the effort strong and consistent. Coaches readily admit they can only do so much. It takes players on the team to step up and show leadership on the field.

I really think we can weather some losses like Jake, Kemo and even Peppers. I just think that when you subtract without adding, you end up in the negative. Until we do some significant addition it will hard for me to be that optimistic. Hopefully the draft goes a long way to do that.

How was the team running out of gas? We start Moore out of the gate and we're a playoff team. Last year we were already one of the youngest teams in the league. Are we trying to set a record?

Harris wants to win and you can believe he's not the only guy on the team over 22 who is wondering what the organizations motive is. He was just the only one to post it on twitter.

Pretty sure he knows there's no place on the new look Panthers for him past this contract anyhow. Being a part of the new "core" won't change that as evidenced this off-season.

this is what this season will be about. can we throw 5-6 new guys together on the field and have them gel TOGETHER AS A UNIT intime for us to play good ball? when things start going bad will everyone turn to beason? who will be the leader of the dline? are we strong enough up the middle to keep teams off beason? these all have to be answered this year.

I hated to see Hoover go but i can understand the Panthers position. Brad was a victim of the Panthers current "youth movement" and i feel sure his salary and recent injury history played a large part in his exit.

I feel Hoover stated his feelings very nicely considering the circumtance.I will have fond memories of his time with the Panthers and wish him happiness and success as he moves on into new settings with his life.

wow! a nicely balanced post! not "hoovahz sucks forevahz!!!" "He's old and needs to shutup" "Didnt need him anyway! fullbacks are a dime a dozen"

Hoover has the right to be upset. Although I do think he could've chosen better words. From such a class act as he is, you'd expect as such from his comments. But so far his comments are not making him look that good and quite frankly are dissapointing, at least to me.

It upsets me he's saying our team is setting itself up for failure. He doesn't realize we have young and very capable players that can step up at the positions where we cut aging vets. He doesn't realize we could end up with 9-10 draft picks if we trade down and/or trade next years first to fill out our team. However, I dont expect him to think rationally since his comments are showing that he is being irrational at the moment.

I was one of the ones that disagreed with cutting him. I thought we should've held on to him another year. He was the biggest cut we made this offseason. But like SLJ said, we have guys that can fill in at FB. Tony, Sutton, Rosario, King, it won't be the end of the world for us. We drafted the best FB in the 2009 draft class last year. It's time to see what he can do. I think it's foolish for anyone to loose hope due to cutting a FB.

lol coaches give the meat.

So, your replacement gets hired, once their up to speed you're on the street. What do you do? Extrapolate that?

Man, have you heard of forced early retirement? It happens all the time. Luckily, I'm in the Fiammetta boat...I'm not nearly old enough for a forced retirement. I could be fired (A.K.A. cut) but then I could draw unemployment and is in the company's view, not worth it.
