Hoover: Panthers in 'opportunity to fail'

If it were me I would still have Lewis and Hoover on the team. Minter and Rucker retired so it wasn't the Panthers option. Sad you didn't know that.

I doubt minter and rucker would have been panthers the year after they retired. I think it was suggested to them that they retire.

When he had one year left on his contract and could groom the guys still green around the ears...yup, dead weight.

If we have to use roster spots to keep guys to groom the younger players, then why do we have coaches? Isn't that what a coach does? I never understood that mentality of hanging on to veterans to groom the new guys.

Fiammetta was hurt

does anyone pay attention or do we just like to randomly spout opinions as fact?

That's right he was out with some injury, I forget what though. He's young, so he still has a job. My point still stands, if Hoover was 29 and making half his salary...back spasms and all previous year, he'd still have his job.

Yes, point out the semantics and avoid the crux of the debate.

Teams don't just draft FBs because they lack talent...

Fiammetta was one of the strongest FBs and possibly the best overall out of his class last year... He'll do just fine becoming our starter, thank you very much...

Blind loyalty is a plague that strikes deep within the heart of the Panthers fan base...

How about we give the young guy a chance before we write him off and only remember a guy who isn't even a Panther anymore?

The guy has blocked for 1000 yrd rushers year after year.

lol. you must be new.

you guys make it sound like he was in front of williams and stewart every down and without him they run like crap. they believe that fiammetta has enough potential to do the job and the best way to get him to learn the job is to let him play. same thing with sutton.

can anyone seriously believe that they intended to keep hoover for much longer? why else did they draft fiammetta? it was nearing time to move on and now was as good a time as any. we only need to keep one FB on the roster. why not keep the one who is going to be around for years rather than one who would only be around for next year and was starting to get injury prone?

Like most players, they retire often when they have few other options. Both Minter and Rucker had bad knees and couldn't hold up to the daily grind. Minter admitted his knees were shot and retired on his own before the season started. Rucker retired when he wasn't going to picked up. That is still different from Hoover who was productive, played in more games than Fiametta and didn't cost that much. Didn't Fiametta have a concussion? Seems to me they can be as recurrent and cumulative as back spasms.

I hear ya, my comment was not just directed at you though.

What's to debate here? Really

Riddle me this...who do you learn most of the details at work from, your supervisors or your peers? Yeah, the "coach" gives you guidance, but your peers give you all the tricks of the trade, especially the OLDER ones.

Fiametta was out more than Hoover. And concussions can be as progressive and degenerative as back spasms. Just ask Morgan. No one saw Hoover as the long term choice. As you said I would let him start this year ,groom Fiametta and let Hoover retire after the year as a lifelong Panther. Everyone is happy and our team is better protected in case of injuries.

I'm not a good example. My peer is my supervisor. And again, if the players are coaching, then why do we have coaches?
