Hoover: Panthers in 'opportunity to fail'

Yes mick eye, your right, he didn't have much to say... on TV...but that's all I am going to say about that. It's obvious you guys can't step out of the real of emotional attachment to players.

It's going to be hell around here when Smitty thinks he still has it and is no longer worth his value. Hopefully (and most likely) it won't be too soon...

This... I learned the hard way with that whole Peppers situation...

There was no reason he had to be cut at this point. His back did cause problems but who is to say it is degenerative or will continue to bother him. Fullbacks take a lot of abuse especially with run first teams. It makes more sense to have two fullbacks just like we have 2 starting running backs. Sutton was fine for a game but hasn't shown to can do the job day in and day out if Fiametta gets hurt. With our history od injuries at several positions he would have provided a cost effective starter who could be spelled by Fiametta when needed. It wasn't as if Fiametta played all year injury free either. He only played in 10 games and started 2. If he gets nicked we are without a true fullback. Sure we could get by putting guys in there but frankly Hoover wasn't breaking the bank and it isn't like we are going to use the money saved to go out and pick up some high priced free agents.

Like several of the moves we made it made no football sense and was motivated by money only. Hopefully it doesn't come back to bite us, but with our luck the areas where we are thin will be the areas where we will have injuries like we did last year with DTs. He is right that at this point we have done little to improve our team and at this point are worse off than last year with the exception of Moore.

However the draft is approaching and we always seem to be more active in the second half of the FA period.

I understand his feeling, though I hate to hear this kind of thing.

Hoover was consistently one of the nicest guys to fans at training camp. It won't feel right without him there.

Wonder if he'd look into a broadcast career. I think he'd be good at it.

Not my favorite move AT ALL but everything else that's been done has made sense for some reason - I am sure this does too.

Having 3 FBs on the team was kind of odd.

Fiametta and Hoover. Who is/was the third?

And don't say Sutton. Sutton is a HB, he is smallest (shortest and lightest) back on the team. He has never played FB at any point in his career other than the one game where Fiametta and Hoover were both out.

Also, I think Rosario outperformed Fiametta by a mile at FB last year.

Just an FYI

P55 would also still have Delhomme, Rucker, and Minter on the team

I can't get over fans that go on about how great players were.

WERE!!

As Pantro says

I agree some fans live off a players glory years an want that player to play 30 years in the league .

Hoover was good in his time, now is not his time .

Age and injury catches every man !

Sutton. I said it LOL. I understand where you are coming from though.

Agreed.

He is unemployed and is bitter about it. However, I do think this one was a financial move. You invested a high pick in the best FB in the draft. You have to get those guys on the field. Hoover has struggled with injuries the past two years....including his back.

yeah- Im afraid Hoover doesnt really have anthing to blame but getting old and the pounding he has taken over the years.

Hopefully hes put some of his past pay away.

I think there is a bit of sour grapes, but 33 is hardly old for fullbacks and Hoovs point that Fiammetta was not outplaying him is valid. The reason I feel...and this may be to Hoover's point, that the Panthers may be setting themselves up for failure is they did cut some very productive players for some unprovens in HOPE they step up. Fiammetta is one of them. I also lol at the notion Sutton will be a full time FB. He did well for spot duty, but that was only spot duty.
