Hoover: Panthers in 'opportunity to fail'

If you're top talent exceeds the aging vet, then yes get rid of the aging vet.

Lewis: Overrated by fans. Good in rotation, but not so good as a starter. He wasn't going back to being a rotational guy.

Kemo: Way overrated by the fans. Was only good for standing in one place.

We have guys like Tank Tyler and Louis Leonard that showed signs that they could get the job done and better than those two.

Peppers: was our best d-lineman, but didn't want to stay. We have Charles Johnson and first rounder Everette Brown to take his place. We will be fine.

Diggs: Was solid but we have either James Anderson, who has shown he can be just as solid, or Dan Connor (who was the leading tackler for Penn State) that could also be just as solid if not better.

Hoover: Was solid but we drafted the best FB in 2009 draft last year to take his spot.

It's not the end of the world people.

Problem is that with the exception of Anderson and Connor being better than Diggs, the aging veterans were better than the up and coming guys.

When Kemo went out Lewis was our best interior linemen by far. He had 41 tackles and would have had a few more sacks if Kemo were in there. Kemo never got much penetration but was largely unmovable and anchored our run defense. When he wasn't in there we were instantly poorer against the run. Meanwhile Louis played one game and went on IR from which he is still recovering and Tyler played in 6 games averaging a tackle a game. And yet they are an upgrade over Kemo and Lewis. Yeah right................

And seriously while Johnson has potential, he couldn't even beat Brayton to start let alone be anything close to replacing Peppers. And Brown needs to get bigger and stronger. He will be fine for short bursts but won't hold up against guys 20-30 lbs bigger than him on every play. He is a long way from being a Dwight Freeney clone. Together they are a long way from replacing Peppers.

And seriously you really beleive Fiametta who played in 10 games and ending up getting injured with a serious concussion is an upgrade to Hoover who played in 11 games and who was sidelined with backspasms and missed significant games for the first time in his career.

And that doesn't even include guys like Moose who we have no clue how we will replace him. Oh thats right Jarrett is an upgrade or that receiver yet to be drafted. Yeah we are great at drafting receivers.

Everyone can believe what they want and I wont go back and forth all day since your mind is made up. But that is more than just trying to blow sunshine up our butts, that borders on insulting our football intelligence.

nobody said it would be the end of the world. just that we arent necessarily a lock for the playoffs and superbowl.

What is your answer to my question?

i dont get it! why do people keep acting like just because you get younger you automatically get better. we all know plenty of young busts. not saying any of our guys will be bust, but to act like they are all allpro waiting to break out when have of them havent even started a game is crazy.

are they better than the "aging vets"? how can they be? they hardly played. how can you compare 7-9 years starting experience to 3-4 GAMES starting experience and say the young guys are better?

we all HOPE they are better for our sake! But honestly none of us know.

Thank You P55!!! What the fug is wrong with some of you??? You people would be the worst GM ever!!!

How are you not getting this???? It is not a good thing when you have too depend on 7-10 guys too step up at the same time. The idea is too have more player who you know can give you this or that.

Lets not mention the fact that we are trying too build throught the draft with no 1st round picks and, we pick too do this in a year when we are under the normal level of picks. Or better yet quality picks.

Like P55 said not only are we HOPING that all these guys step up we have too pray for no major injuries because we haven't signed any BACK-UP. Then Mr. optimist says "well get all of that in the draft and FA". But again no great quality picks and the number of player we have too HOPE pan's out goes up too like 20-22 player we need too step up.

You people are looking for alot of poo too go right for us this year. Maybe I've been a fan of this team too long but I can only remeber 1 season where we got that lucky and everything went our way.

If we are doing this call it what it is '"REbuilding". The only reason the FO is not saying this is so Jerry can raise ticket Prices for a sub par team right now. As of right now this is not a playoff team and our owner has a surplus of money too use but is not for some strange reason.

If George Shinn or Bob Johnson was doing what Jerry is doing now they would be burned at the stake by fans.

Exactly the point. with the moves we have made we basically cant miss on ANY of these draft picks. we have given ourselves little room for error this year.

i wonder how many teams have made these level of moves and not been in rebuilding mode?

As it were, we were already one of the youngest teams in the NFL before the cuts, now we have to be top 3 youngest teams in the NFL. That's a nice distinction! Again, it's a building model that is set to make a long term run. All many of are saying (P55, KKL, CA etc...) is that hurt us in the short term i.e. 2010. Even if we do happen to make the playoffs with the marshmellow schedule this season, we've lost the veteran leadership to actually make any noise.

I wouldn't make such a huge fuss outside of I have to pay for tickets despite the product on the field and with a looming lockout in 2011, it could be possibly 2012 or 2013 before this "plan" takes hold.

    • NFL Pro has the All-22 up already 😄 Going to grab a play or two from each redzone series to put screenshots to. Looks like AT angled his route off to the near pylon rather than the back corner where Bryce was throwing to. I imagine this is something they'll quickly try to figure out with Thielen back from IR. After watching the All-22 again, this was actually a pretty nifty play. I thought it was a TE screen to Tremble because of the way XL charged the DB, but he quickly shed and kept upfield as seen in the second screenshot. This looks like it had multiple layers built into it with AT running the crosser, XL the fade, Tremble to the flat. The progression would call for the play to go to Chuba here as the LB does follow Tremble out into the flat. Ball hits Chuba low and in the hands, but the LB does a good job disrupting the catch.
    • The bottom lines to me are that a) we played well enough to beat the best team in the league and b) Bryce Young is growing into a bridge QB role (his ceiling) for us. As much as I don't want BY around after the season, it seems DC can still build the O with a game manager at QB for now. Best case scanario, we can build the D through the draft this year and take a QB we have conviction outside the 1st this or next draft. If BY keeps improving, we are going to win a couple more games this year.
    • Bryce has been a completely different QB since coming back. That started in Denver where it was obviously he was playing a lot more loose and willing to push the ball downfield  Bryce continues to build off of the previous weeks performance and that’s what you want to see Bryce has been making some real good anticipation throws. Reading defenses well. Pushing the ball downfield (7 throws of 20+ air yards yesterday. 8 if you want to include PI to Thielen). The deep ball accuracy has been there. Some of Young’s best throws yesterday were incompletions. Sideline balls to XL and Moore both should’ve been caught. RZ dot to Tremble should’ve been caught. And another RZ ball to Moore that Young gave him a chance at. Bryce is starting to execute Canales offense and yesterday Canales finally opened it up a bit. Canales was to blame for the 126 passing yards in Germany as he played a more conservative game.  The next bit I’m looking for his for Young to be a bit more decisive with running the ball. Start putting that on film and it’ll help open things up a tad
