Dak Prescott

I don't think non-elite retreads are the way to go, at this point. We have been down this road multiple times.

If/when the Bryce thing fizzles out, we will be back in top 5 pick territory so you just keep shooting your shot until you make one.

We are not going to attract any elite QB talent in free agency because we have a bad franchise.

The draft is the only path forward at this point, barring some blockbuster trade. But, look at how those recent elite QB trades have worked out(Wilson and Watson).

If in 2024 Brice Young doesn't show improvement and there aren't any surefire franchise QBs in the 2025 draft.

Dak is done in Dallas after 2024. Would you consider Dak?

For me I've never been a huge Prescott fan but with Canales's ability to bring a QB along it's an interesting thought.

This "non-elite" or average or slightly above average stuff simply isn't supported by his stats. Dak isn't the best out there, and sure he's never won a chip, but several notable QBs didn't win, until they did.

I don't know how we'd pay him the highest contract in NFL history, so all of this is probably moot, but we could do far far less than Dak.

Anyone that has watched NFL football for a while should be able to fairly readily see that Dak is not an elite QB. Putting up elite stats on a loaded team is not the same as being an elite QB. Ask 49er fans.

I think that signing would signal that the team desperately wants to return to mediocrity. If that was the intent then why bother moving on from Rivera and company in the first place? He would have been able to manage mediocrity with a sniff of the playoffs here and there.

Dak doesn't win in the postseason on stacked teams. 2-5 postseason and never won a game outside of the wildcard round. He puts up great numbers but that's it if you are looking to do more than peak into the playoffs. Let someone else overpay him now, play him for 2 or 3 years and if Carolina is still looking for QBs then revisit him when he cut from the deal he is trying to sign now. That's Dak's sweetspot IMO. Dak is going to go look like Derrick Carr somewhere soon on a contract like he is looking for. 9-8 and already looking to develop a project rookie while Atlanta pulled the trigger Cousins' first year lol.

Nailed it. Sign a re-tread and keep drafting until you hit. A re-tread is fine as long as they don't pretend he is more than that like the 2 times before. The funny thing to me is that it would still look like this years offense in that scenario at worst and TB and Atlanta will be duking it out this year for the NFCS crown with that setup.

Equating Dak to Brock Purdy...? Not buying it. Furthermore, "elite" is very much subjective. Dak is an above average QB, period. How good he is is a matter of opinion. Plenty of people that watch football, and those that play it, see Dak as good.  He's better than anything we've had for a while, and better than many QBs in the league. Super Bowl teams, even good teams, are "loaded" to certain degrees. Put any QB behind a bad line and without talent, and they're not going to look good, much less elite.

You are basically making my point for me. Are you going to extol the virtues of having the next Matt Ryan? Carson Palmer?

Signing Dak will mead us to success as a franchise, I won't argue that. But he will never lead us(or likely any team) to the success that we really want.

Because he is not an elite QB.

it's about not wanting to overpay for an old overrated QB who chokes on the regular. it's like a starving man not wanting to pay a million bucks for a pack of moldy crackers when you know that if you hold off a little longer you can find a better cheaper meal that won't make you sick.

I mean I see what you're saying, but we're still waiting on that better, cheaper meal and nothing in the team's history has shown the ability to successfully do this on the offensive side of the ball. Dak might be overrated, but his overrate is still pretty high, and the only reason why any choking stands out is because he's in a lot more meaningful games.

Put him on this team today and he is already at worst the 3rd best QB in team history, warts and all. And depending on the trajectory, he could be the 2nd best (sorry Jake). Carolina wins the division with him at QB.

Agree. This Dak talk reminds me a lot of Matt Stafford, or "Stat Padford" as one of the talking heads calls him. Overrated in Detroit, the one season in California totally changes how he's seen.

Also reminds me.of how many people here legit wanted no part of Lamar when he was allegedly available.

No reason to believe Dak couldn't do the same.

I haven't made any point but that "elite" is very much a matter of definition---it's subjective.

Dak has been good throughout his career, and last season was one of his best. Of course he faltered in the playoffs, but so did several QBs. So if you're going to ding him, you must ding them all, except one. There is only one truly elite QB in the league, and we all know who he is.

Dak is a franchise QB. Matt Ryan was one as well. Palmer was as well before he got injured.

You seem to be suggesting that you can only win a chip with an elite QB. I say that you can win one without one. It's a team sport.

The fact is, Dak's career passer rating and career QBR are in the good territory, as a I've stated. If you look at his last season, they were more than good. QBs with lesser ratings than Prescott have led their teams to a chip.

Suggesting that most elite QBs will take a team bereft of a line and weapons to a chip doesn't make sense. It just doesn't. Mahomes and Brady are really the only ones that came close to that, and parts of their teams were elite if not most of their teams. Maybe Burrow can do it, but he's suffered some injuries that have directly affected his play and taken the shine off. You need at least a good team and a good QB. This pretty much shows itself every year.
