Looking for a PC

Best bang for your buck is AMD and stop talking about all this prebuilt stuff. Half the stuff in those machines are refurbed parts and you have no idea what brand anything in the machine is, well maybe the VC but that's about it.

It takes newegg 2 days to ship parts out not a week. I ordered my stuff on a Monday and had my pc built by Thursday. 4 days and about $800 cheaper than a prebuilt.

That's why I don't deal with Dell, Compaq or HP. They're the main culprits in the refurb scam. Especially Dell.

Takes'em 2 days to ship it out, and another 3-5 to get there, unless you paid extra for shipping. But I guess that cost doesn't get figured into the equation.

I dunno what prebuilt you were looking at, sounds like one of the overpriced, overhyped models they label as GAMING in the major retailers.

I think he'd be better off going and getting an amd quad core prebuilt for about 500$ with 8gb ram, a tb hd, win7, upgrading the power supply and slapping a nice video card.

I wish you'd guys stop suggesting to people asking for pc advice on a football forum to go build their own. If they could go build their own, they wouldn't be here asking us for advice. And if they were ready to build their own, I'd hope they'd have enough sense to go ask for help on a PC forum instead.

500w power supply? Seriously?

And I thought the purpose was to make a better system than what you can buy prebuilt on discount for less money.

it's a quality line of PSU and it comes with a good case, you save money as part of a combo. 500W is about 100W more than what this build requires. If he wants to spend a little more dough I'll give him more.

People really overate the amount of watts you need for a system. What matters more is the quality of the PSU and the 12V+ rail.

If this is true, why aren't you turning out 20 pcs a week at 800$ a pop profit and build your business until you can do us all a favor and put Dell and Compaq out of business?

EDIT: I just think that building a pc is better left to the hobbyists, the model train builders of the computer world, and I don't want anyone getting in over their head. Its much easier to build your own pc now than it was 10 years ago when you could build them cheaper than you bought them. But now that everything has gone into super mass production and with the deflation of the economy, the price differential is virtually non-existent. Its cool if you wanna brag about your rig and try to get nerd points, but at the end of the day you have to consider who you're giving advice to, and if they're ready to take a shot at building it. I've seen people pour money and pour money into building a pc, ordering from newegg and tigerdirect, only to call me at the end of the day to figure out why they can't get past a damn bios screen.

Do you get a kick back or something from Dell for buying their pre-builts?

Like you said, most of us do it for a hobby so no I don't want to build pc's for a living, I like cooking little pigs everyday.

Bottom line is you get a better computer for much less if you build it yourself and you know exactly what is going into it.

Dirty, if you want a pc built I will do it for you free. I like putting them together unlike porno.:piggy:

You also get a Windows 7 license and shiz when you buy a PC that's already put together.

I know most people that build computers pirate everything anyways (lol I used to) but seriously I'm not 15 anymore and the minimal savings (if any) is not worth the frustration.

And I think you've been snubbing your nose at prebuilts for so long that you don't realize that a discounted pc is the best bang for your buck and has been for years.

You can talk poo about refurbs all you want, but there's nothing wrong with a refurb I can't fix.

Bottom line is you cannot build a way better computer for much less. That's either a boldfaced lie or you don't pay attention to the prices of prebuilts. Or you're judging them based by the everyday price you see at a retail center. Going to Best Buy and just picking up a premade that's not discounted is a way worse idea than building your own, I think we can both agree on that.

But I'm not suggesting anyone go into Best Buy blind and just buy a modeled labeled GAMING because its gonna be waaaay overpriced. So yeah, if you don't know how to find a deal, I could see how you think you saved 800$ building your own pc. I don't buy overpriced poo.

I can show you a refurb right now that you can't assemble for less than 800$, but they have it going for $499, and its an Asus. But I also wouldn't suggest anyone buying a refurb that can't fix any problem that goes wrong with them. I can. There ain't a damn thing I can't fix on a pc.

You can build a slightly better computer for a little less, but at the end of the day you've put more work into it than is worth it.

Dirty, don't let these guys rip you off, and don't let them build a pc for you. If you want to build your own pc, learn to do it yourself.

And I think I've said Dell is the worst PC manufacturer you can make a purchase from. I thought everyone knew that by now. I'm sad that people have actually suggested HP. There is no difference between HP, Dell, or Compaq. They're all garbage.
