Report: Bears offer D-Line coaching position to Rod Marinelli

The deal is done. Marinelli apparently turned down both the Seahawks' and Texans' offers to be DC, and accepted the Bears D Line coach/Asst HC offer. I'm loving this move. If Marinelli can revive our D-Line pass rush, that will remedy so many of our defensive woes... this is the guy that coached Warren Sapp, Simeon Rice, Chris Hovan.... with Lovie, Jerry Angelo and Rod, it's like Tampa Bay North now... and they're all BFF's, which is super neato

That was definitely and ironically one of the weakest spots in our D this past season... and it's not like we don't have the personnel to get a good rush... so I don't know what was the deal. Marinelli's forte is the D Line, so I expect an improvement

I think they do lack the personnel.

I think Tommie has lost his marbles.

I think Dusty never had the physical tools.

I think 'wale is too old and not talented.

I think Alex Brown, who damn near got cut by Lovie's genius, is the only one with the skillz to pay the bills.

Anderson got figured out by the league in a hurry, and hasn't been heard from since.

I want major re-toolage of both lines.

That O-line is really damn old in the middle now, and that kid they drafted seems soft and mushy.

I agree that Wale is definitely on the downside of his career and would not be opposed to seeing no longer in a Bears uni... I like Wale, but he hasn't been producing.

I agree that Brown has been a rock for us

Anderson showed that he has the potential to do things, so I'm not ready to write him off just yet...

I like Dusty's motor, but he needs to learn how to stay healthy...

Our interior is where we have our greatest potential, IMO. Harris is far from done, methinks... and I think Marcus Harrison has star potential... I'd love to see us draft a sleek, fast DE to compete with Wale and hopefully with the taskmaster Marinelli barking at them, things will look up...

Here, epi, try some of this Kool-Aid... it's oh so delicious!!

Hey, at least your Cubbies will be back soon... "There's always next year!"

Great move for Bears' fans, but I don't understand his logic. Why not just take the Texans' DC job? If you do well, you'll be back in the mix to be HC again somewhere. If you do poorly, nobody will really even notice. It's the Texans!

I'm sorry, that was mean. :(

From what I've read, Rod wanted to get back into his comfort zone- the D Line. Plus, he's asst. HC, so any job offer will have to be an HC position. Not to mention, Chicago runs the defensive scheme that he's accustomed to and familiar with, as well as his existing relationships with Lovie and Jerry Angelo, which has a value that can't be measured in money

    • His o loaded with swift, dj, Keenan and Rome was inconsistent at best. The d was bad. And the game management was atrocious and lost them games.  He was terrible and made the team worse. I wish they kept him
    • That is my point.  I think teams make a huge mistake when they pay their decent to average QBs top QB money because they feel that they have to match the market or lose their investment--There is no way, for example, that Tua or Prescott or Murray should all be making more than Mahomes--I mean, Dak makes $15m per season more than Mahomes. People say, "Well, when its his turn...." But that is not how it should be--so my point was that Bryce can be doing mediocre to good enough in 2 years, but the way it is going, you have to pay him at the starting QB rate--currently $60m.  So even if you think he will continue to improve, at $60 m, he would eliminate any chance for a ring---so my view is, if he is not elite, you cut him.  So you draft QBs now and see what you can make of them.
    • With two 4ths and three 5ths I’m hoping we can kill it on adding depth. Take a gamble with the two 7ths.  First 3 picks id love to address the defense. I expect Tuttle, Robinson, and Jewell to all be on the 2025 roster but not after that. Be a good time to add depth and let them develop a year.
