I think it would be smart to bring in someone young like Troy Smith or Brady quinn and someone old like Jeff Garcia or Vinny Testaverde. It diffidently would be smart for us to have 2 backups instead of 1 and not to waste a draft pick on a QB. What do you guys think?

That article's been around the block already.

Troy Smith wants to start, and could make a case that he should for wherever he ends up. Not a good option if all you're looking for is a backup (and that is all we're looking for).

Brady Quinn's already been traded to the Broincos. The team that just acquired him is not going to trade him again.

Garcia and Testaverde are both older than dirt. Plus as has been discussed numerous times, Garcia is only good in a West Coast Offense (which the Panthers do not and will not run).

The best option right now is still Josh McCown. I suspect he still will be later in the offseason as well, but the Panthers are waiting to see.

I have a feeling it might be Marc Bulger. The Rams signed AJ Feeley from us, they are likely going to draft Bradford #1, and Bulger looks to be the odd man out. He was pretty good back a few years but seemed to lose confidence as the weapons around him aged and left the team. Wouldn't be a horrible choice for a backup. We could do worse!

Bulger's contract is crazy. He signed a 6year deal in 2007 for something redonkelous like 65 mill. If he was paid like a backup he would be fine. I don't see a lot of vets that i would want on my team. The best thing we can do i feel is draft a backup. I see nothing wrong with a group of young QB's. This mentoring crap is overrated. The OP says something about not having to waste a pick then mentions Quinn and Smith both players that have been tendered and would cost a draft pick to acquire. THEN mentions two QB's in their 40's. Give it up we need a young guy behind Moore. Let's draft him.

If we would go the Bulger route, I seriously doubt we would trade for him. Rather, we would probably just wait for him to be released and try to sign him as a FA, so his current contract would have no impact on the Panthers.
