Falcons got Cousins and Penix

the Falcons are absolutely headed in the right direction &  anyone that denies that is just simply jealous I have them as the most complete team from top to bottom in the NFCS...just saying

If Cousins leads them to an nfcs berth because of our terrible division, they may not have an opportunity to get another Penix if he’s the kind of QB they want. 1-2 years to get used to NFL speed and develop the way rookie QBs should doesn’t hurt his value or long term plan. I’m not a fan of his injury history, but who are we to judge. We’ve been a revolving door of terrible QB play since 2018.

That said. fug the Falcons.

I get what they are doing, going for long term sustained success instead of short term gain.  Cousins gives them the ability to compete now, and in two or three years, if they think Pennix can play, they cut or trade Cousins and go with Pennix for the foreseeable future.  Akin to what Green Bay did with Favre, Rogers, and now Love.  If it works out for Green Bay and Atlanta, might see other teams do the same thing.

Personally, I wish we had let Cam play out his contract and drafted a younger guy that same year, instead of cutting cam and the ridiculous signing of TB.

yeah for example the Green Bay & San Fransico model of drafting your young Qb 2 to 3 years prior to starting for the established vet has been a successful philosophy to follow in years past ...

Montana...Young

Favre...Rodgers

maybe yeah just maybe

Cousins...Penix

makes sense...just saying

Its not a bad idea but they shouldn't have taken a guy that will be 28 by the time he plays.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Cousins' Achilles rehab isn't going great because the Penix pick honestly felt like a panic move.

But then again, the Packers have probably had the best QB play in the NFL over the past 30 years with Favre and then Rodgers and now Love showed great promise last year. They didn't need a QB when they drafted both Rodgers and Love and both guys sat for multiple years. The strategy has been working. Maybe the Falcons are trying to recreate that?

I mean if it wasn't for hiring a buffoon for HC and the general impatience, grabbing Teddy and drafting a rookie to sit for a year or two could have been a fine strategy. Wasn't a great class in 2020 but we skipped on Jalen Hurts for YGM in the 2nd

2020 was one of the best qb classes in recent memory.

Joe Burrow, Tua, Herbert, Jordan Love, and Hurts.  Getting five starting qb's out of a single draft class is very rare.

We could have taken Hurts or Love.  Of course, hindsight is 20/20, and if we had taken Love with our first round pick, our fans would have been howling, as Falcon fans are now.  But it probably would have been the right move.

But I agree, Rhule was a fool who made one significant mistake after another.

It's extremely rare. Go back through past draft and count how many times that's happened.

They took a RB in the top 10 last year they barely used and this year they took a QB in the top 10 that wont play anytime soon. I fully approve Falcons wasting all their top picks for the foreseeable future.

This. They are the minicowboys. All hype. Talent is there, but won't win when it matters. Cousins is the perfect QB for them. Penix will get lazy sitting on the sidelines and cousins will do just enough to keep him there.

I think they are hamsters in a wheel. Lots of energy used to go nowhere.

What is extremely rare?  Taking a young quarterback when you have a starter?  If that is what you are referring to, at one time it wasn't that rare.

    • We could easily pick apart yesterday’s game: dropped passes, blown coverages, bad tackling and red zone issues to name a few. But it was clear that this wasn’t the same team from earlier in the season. They fought back and hung with the champs until the end. That’s what I was excited to see and it gives me hope that we’re on the right track.
    • I think BY played well today and exceeded expectations. I will temper future expectations as he has to string together many games of consistent quality. One game doesn’t convince me that he is a franchise QB or even a guy you want to stick with for another season. One game doesn’t erase all the negative play and limitations from the past couple of years. I hope he balls out and continues to get better but for me the verdict is still out   That said, I think he gave the team and fans hope yesterday which is a lot more than what we had when we woke up Sunday morning.
    • He was vastly improved today and we need to see more of Bryce the rest of the season to continue evaluate him in order to decide what the heck to do with him at the end of the season. He must play at least like this and improve more from here the rest of the season in order for me to keep him. No more 123 yard passing games and want to see at least this output weekly from him. If this is Bruce improving slowly over time then Canales is even better with developing QB's than I thought he was but still too early to tell and we need to see him the rest of the way as he has at very least earned back the starting gig moving forward.
