Smitty was on WFNZ this morning

He was on the radio this morning and had some interesting things to say

- Says he is happy with his contract, won't be going anywhere

- He said "I don't want to be the #1 receiver anymore" and went on to say that he wants a young guy to come in and be the #1 to take pressure off him, he said he has matured as a player and wants the flexibility to play all WR positions.

- Said he and Pep talked a lot more than people realize and that Pep worked as hard as anyone on the team last year, and that "he balled". Also said that the talk of Pep not playing hard isn't true, he cited the '07 2.5 sack season and said that everyone had a down year, not just Pep.

- Said he and coach Fox don't see eye to eye often and that it's just because he is a receiver that is always open and Fox likes to run the ball. He has faith in what Fox is doing.

- Said that the Panthers aren't any more or less active than any other teams, the looming lockout is affecting how all teams approach the offseason.

- Said his ideal WR to come in and take the #1 spot would be Andre Johnson, also he noted that he doesn't care about contracts and stuff or that it's not possible to bring Johnson here, that's who he wants.

- Most notable, he said coach Fox gave a speech to end the season this year that inspired all the players to come back and work harder than ever. Smitty said he spoke to them as men, not players or employees, and that it meant the world to him and most of the guys. He said, "I know I'm going to work as hard as I can for coach fox"

That's all I can remember, anyone else catch anything notable I missed?

This whole #1 #2 stuff is made up mostly in the media and fans anyway. Also, this isn't the first time Smitty has said this and it doesn't mean he isn't dedicated our as dangerous as ever. You need a WR Corps that compliments each other and a QB who can get the ball to the open guy. That guy may be the #3 or #4 guy off the bench.

Doesn't want to be #1 anymore? What kind of player talks like that?

And some of y'all crucified me for questioning his early-season effort.

Oh yeah, I forgot he said that people are saying he's lost a step. I KNOW nobody is saying that to his face. Smitty reads the huddle?? better watch out Jase

I didn't hear the interview but the way its transcribed it sounds like Smitty is really saying:

I don't want to have to be on the outside every play being covered by Revis, Asomugha et al. Sometimes I want to be in the slot so I can own some poor little nickel, break the tackles of both safeties and score a 50yd TD. Cos that's what I'm good at.

I wish he didn't have his headphones on when I saw him at the gym a few weeks ago. I definitely wouldn't have called him out.

What receiver WANTS to be the subject of elite corners? People read too far into stuff. Smitty is one of the hardest working receivers in the game. Just look back at what Darelle Revis said about him: "He's a competitor" Revis was asked what receivers are the best and most challenging to cover and the only receivers he said were competitors were Smitty, Andre Johnson, and Ochocinco.

And as for Andre Johnson, there is absolutely zero, and I mean 0 chance of him ever being traded. He's arguably the best receiver in the league.

Was happy to see him say he doesn't want to go anywhere, though. Did he say anything regarding Moore by the way? or Jarrett?
