Blackouts

Recommended Posts

I live in Asheville which is about a two hour drive from Charlotte. I'd really like to watch the Bobcats on TV and get excited about the team and make a trip down to watch them play next season (preferably on a Sunday so I can watch the Panthers earlier that day).

Anyway, I can't watch them on TV as they keep getting blacked out. The question I pose is how am I (a non-Charlettonian) supposed to get exposure to and become excited about the team when I can't watch them on TV? I know I can find an illegal stream on the internet (and I probably have and will do so in the future) but really how many people are going to do this when they never get a chance to watch them in the first place?

End the blackouts in my region damn it! How are you going to get fans outside of Charlotte if you won't show any games?

You live in a city that is 130 miles from Charlotte, so you're not really in the Charlotte Bobcats market that goes out about 75 miles (NBA standard).

The reason you cant watch games is because the cable provider in Asheville, whom I assume is Time Warner or Charter doesnt want you to. They blackout games because they wont pay Fox Sports the fee to air the broadcasts. Cable providers for the most part listen to their base about what they want to watch. For example, in Elizabeth City, NC they dont show Carolina Panthers games, even though it is in Carolina and instead opt to show Washington Redskins games. There's a county in the mountain area that also shows Falcons games instead of Panthers games. Teams cant force a cable provider to show their games and every team in this state would like for their product to get as much exposure as it can. Go in the "important info on the Bobcats TV viewing area" thread and get in contact with the Bobs rep I listed about resolving this issue.

Also keep in mind the Bobcats have fans all over the world. I post on another Bobcats related forum and we have fans in Missouri, Massachusets, New York, Texas, Australia, etc. All of which arent blessed to watch any of our games on TV or drive to a game, yet they are still very rabid about us. It can be done.

do you have cable , dish or direct tv? your cable provider may not pay the fee that fox sports charges to cable systems and your sat. provider will not pay because you are considered out of market. either way i think if you check the threads forum you will find one that covers this issue

didn't mean to repost info that was already covered, but i'm hopeful that the cats are able to convince the nba at somepoint to relax their rules and let the cats consider north and south carolina their market much like the nfl does with the panthers

Either.

At home I have Dish Network but I know people with Charter and can watch at their place.

Anyway I'm writing letters and emails, hopefully I'll be able to watch the Bobcats without resorting to internet streams one day!
