Let Rod Walk

It’s happened with the panthers, bruins, and rangers in the last few years and look at them. Couldn’t do poo in the playoffs and got new coaches.  Working out pretty well for them.

Brunette was an interim for Florida when they went to the finals and was not offered the job. Quenneville resigned following the Blackhawk investigation.

Cassidy may be the one guy who your argument does apply to during his term with the Bruins.

Gallant was canned in NY because the players didn't want him there. Despite an outstanding record, it's not a secret that Rags players were very unhappy with his coaching approach following their playoff exit to the NJ Devils and subsequent player exit interviews.

I have no desire to nuke this whole roster. I said I was nervous about the attrition from the first round and I do believe that was a key factor in not being able to get past the Rangers.

I also think we are seeing some of what the Leafs fans said about Freddie, that he wilts a little when the lighta get bigger. To that note, I want to see a 50/50 split with Koochie next year. I think that is our dude long term, if we develop him correctly.

We have been through doom and gloom almost every offseason but somehow it works out in the end. I think it will this offseason too. We just have to find a little bit better mix for next season and the playoffs. Simple as that.

Let's get real. Without emotion, let's just be honest businessmen here.

RBA is not going to accept a 1-year deal and I don't think Dundon or Waddell will disrespect him by offering such a thing.

It's a pretty well-known idea that RBA wants deals for all of his assistants tied to his contract. In reality, I'm not sure why any of his assistants would want that risking a potential HC gig elsewhere, but so be it.

Remember, the NHL is absolutely atrocious when it comes to retreading head coaches. "Let Rod walk" and get who, exactly? Craig Berube? Don Granato, Jay Woodcroft or Todd McLellan? I can honestly say you'd likely see Granato or McLellan- both of whom come from teams not that much different than Carolina in Buffalo and Los Angeles.

Personally, I'd be a little surprised if RBA left under any circumstance other than his own decision. NHL coaches don't get canned for losing in the playoffs, they get fired for not getting to the playoffs when someone (front office) thought they should.

I will say this- if RBA does leave before decisions are made with respect to Guentzel, Kuznetsov, Pesce, Skjei, and Necas; and the possible retirement decisions of Burns and Staal; it will signal a rebuild and it will also mean a few very good players are going to leave who many of us thought would be re-signed at all costs.

Idc. Doing the same thing over and over again is not getting us a Cup. Its one thing if we were playing like we should and still lose, but we are not. We keep having the same poo happen over and over again in the playoffs. Thats on coaching. If he wants to tie himself to his assistants, then let him walk. Bye.

Rod stays...Canes would be tepper level bad to let him leave.

Agreed. People who say this are of the same ilk as "WE GOTTA GET RID OF RICHARDSON SO WE CAN GET THE NFL SHIELD OFF THE FIELD."

How is that working out now?

Rod can stay as long as he likes and keeps fielding one of the best teams in the NHL. He does need someone on the staff that understands goalies. That has always been a weakness for him.

Yeah I wouldn't mind seeing a different assistant coach or two but I'd rather not get rid of the one of the best coaches in the NHL. Guys play hard for Rod. We're spoiled.

That's the short-sighted part of this thread- you want RBA gone? Who you bringing in that will come close to accomplishing what he has?

Winning the Cup may be the most difficult professional sports championship to achieve. Go back thru history and, in the modern era, there have been very few what you could call "dynasties" in the NHL. One needs to find the balance that gets the team in a position to win consistently thru pipeline, depth, draft and shrewd FA moves like the Canes have now. Or, you sell the soul of your team to win a Cup and when it comes time to repay that debt- look out.

You want a Chicago Blackhawks 2013-2015? Yes, you can have that. Then you get to follow that up with the 2016-present Blackhawks, who are quite possibly one of the worst franchises in the league over the past 8 seasons.

Instead of the "fire everyone" attitude, why not embrace the fact that you get to watch a team win consistently year in and year out with a crop of young talent waiting in the wings and a roster full of players who want to be here and want to play for RBA. A shot at the Cup every year... what more can you ask? A chance to complete for the Cup every year since he's been the coach. You guys do realize that's not happened in this league, like ever, until now.

Let RBA walk and this team becomes the Blackhawks in a couple years, with a couple older, excellent players (Kane-Aho, Duncan Keith- Jacob Slavin), and nothing in the pipeline and not a lot of players wanting to be here.

I've already re-upped my tickets for next year and I can't wait for next season in October.

We did ours as well. Even with the price increase. Here's to next season!! Donny wads has a ton of work to do.

I can accept ticket price increases when that money is being spent to make the team and facilities better, unlike what Tepper has done in Charlotte.  Dundon has a ton of respect from me.

Also, you said a mouthful with that last sentence....Donny and the Committee have a lot of work to do.  Priorities IMHO is getting Guentzel and Skjei re-signed.  I love Pesce, but Skjei doesn't get hurt as much and Pesce doesn't have the offensive upside.  Guentzel is a no brainer.  I also strongly believe we should keep Necas, he is too fast, skilled, and dangerous to just let go.  He has had some "WTF" moments but he is relatively still young.

One other hail mary I'd like to throw out there is getting KK off the books for something of some value, but it's most likely a pipe dream.

Trust me, the ticket investment in the Canes has already paid for itself with the amount of fun we have and the experiences we've enjoyed with the organization. From my recognition as a BCBS Hero of the Game during the 2019 playoffs, riding the zambonis, taking our dogs on the ice during the Christmas holiday photo op in 2022, and the fact the team wins.

Compare that to having Panther PSLs for 17 years, which cost a helluva lot more than Canes tickets and there's little doubt as to which is the better bang for your buck.
