Charlotte Observer: Official newspaper of the New Orleans Hornets

Zo was leading LJ in every statistical category pretty much, but Shinn wouldn't pay him like he did LJ. Zo and LJ also did not get along very well at the time, and got into a fight later on in the playoffs when Zo played for the Heat and LJ played for the Knicks.

Shinn chose LJ over Mourning, in the end.

PSC, I can't multi-quote all your posts, or at least I don't feel like it, lol... But, you are right on. I don't think it's just Charlotte, it's NC in general man. I mentioned being in school in Chapel Hill, originally being from Fayetteville, I'm disgusted man. The amount of racial undertones and suppressed anger towards the Bobcats is ridiculous. I have to admit though, going to a game this year was completely than when I went in 07... It actually felt like an experience, as a crowd.

I mentioned the other night how I went to the Bobcats game when they played at the Dean Dome... Hardly anyone showed up. I bought a ticket a few minutes before tip-off and I walked in, walked straight down to the front row beside the tunnel and sat down. All I got to listen to was a few snooty folks sitting the next rows over talking about Ray Felton like he was their son between talks of tennis tourneys and wine tastings. They could care less about the game, the team, or anything non-UNC. They only went for the UNC ties.

I get the same feeling when I've read the comments on the observer's articles. Me and KT have been on the same page historically on a lot of things on this website, so we're familiar with each other lol. But, as far as the Bobcats, I have to admit, I just kind of tuned out all the talk of race anywhere I go, b/c I feel like for the most part it started as people pushing their agenda and using Bob Johnson's mistakes as a guise to spew their ingrained hate for anything that has more melanin than they prefer.

I didn't really understand all the Bonnell hate either, b/c not living in Charlotte, I didn't really get the perspective you and KT have on it. My perspective is, "Man, I can't get any good news on the Bobcats, so whatever he happens to post, I'm happy to have some news..." Basically, any news is good news. Plus, I was a teenager when the Hornets were in their prime and I got to see them on TV everynight, IN THE FAYETTEVILLE AREA, so I didn't really have a need to check the observer for news... Therefore, I have no idea what Bonnell was like pre-Bobcats. I hadn't really heard an explanation as to why there was a faction of Bobcats fans who hated Rick, but now I understand it... And I didn't really pay attention to the little jabs towards the Cats in his pieces.

Sorenson and Fowler, I don't read their crap anyway. I'd much rather read their opinions on who was their favorite Backstreet Boy, at least they'd be knowledgeable about the subject matter.

Now that you've mentioned it, it kind of pisses me off. I originally found this board for Panthers stuff as a teenager b/c I got tired of the BS on the observer forums. As much as I like Zod and appreciate having this forum, sadly, it's crap like this that is starting to wear on me. KT catches so much crap for stating HIS OPINION. Everyone else states theirs and as long as the circle jerk approves of it, then it's all good... Then 20 posts by said circle-jerker's friends begging for a drop of their internet awesomeness to fall upon them and rub off in their message board posting abilities follows.

KT doesn't go with the status quo and so everyone has to "do him a favor" and "force feed him the facts" and "force him to..." blah blah blah... Catching any undertones there? Exactly. It's everywhere man.

Tell somebody about themselves and they can't take it. This forum needs some introspection by each member... Or they can just continue to ignore the issues that are biting at them daily and seek their internet friend approval and act like nothing is wrong.

Don't know if it's true, and I can't remember where I read it, but someone had said Bonnell was Shinn's insurance agent before becoming the Hornet's beat writer, or something like that.

Sounds possible. Also, combined with what you've said, makes sense. I can't lie, I miss the Hornets. There was so much about the team to love - the name, the colors, the players, the logo, Hugo... I'm still pissed they got to take something that was so unique to Charlotte/NC with them to NOLA... But guess what, when they left, that was it. F*ck Shinn and Woolridge. And I honestly hope they fail and have to move again, sell, or default. I hate the Hornets.

When we got the Bobcats, that was my team, no matter what. They rep me, I rep them. They're my team. The Hornets are gone and I'm tired of every 2 weeks reading about the magical 1988 season... The opening game. Updates on George Shinn's health and statements he makes... I don't care.

Anyway, thanks for the perspective.

Interest in the Hornets declined steeply after Zo was traded to Miami, jumped a bit when Glen Rice won All Star MVP, then resumed its steady decline and never recovered.

Bass did a good job of making sure we didn't get ripped off when we traded players, and got solid talent back, but we never quite came out ahead either. Seemed like the other team always got the better end of the stick.

Zo for Glen Rice.

Kobe Bryant for Vlade Divac

Glen Rice for Eddie Jones.

Eddie Jones for Jamal Mashburn.

The only trade that really improved us instead of maybe holding steady or giving us a slight decline was LJ for Anthony Mason. But LJ was never the same player after his injury.

They were only magical for 2 seasons, and before that it was like a kid with a new video game. Afterwards...our trades just never really got us better.

I wish the Bobcats had picked up Paul Silas instead of Ham Biscuit tho...we might be in a whole different boat right now. But if that had happened, we probably wouldn't have LB here....

So maybe things worked out for the best.

fans turned out for couple of seasons after zo but after the lockout of 98-99 attendance took a deep dive and once shinn's problems came out along with his threats of moving culminated with the arena vote. once the arena got voted down it was either shinn was going to sell or move the team

i also wonder what would have happened if the hornets beat the bucks and made it to the eastern conference finals

I still hate the Bucks b/c of that playoff series. Those were some dirty mf's. It took me a long time to let go of my despise for Ray Allen and Sam Cassell after that series too.
