You know when I actually watched that live, I was pissed, and wanted the panthers to cut him after then game for making us look like douchebags. But after watching it a couple times I dont think it was that dirty of a hit. Clifton Smith never calls fair catch and seeing as there is no way Dante Wesley could know where the all is in the air, he was trying to time it so the hit came as the ball got there, to try and make a play for his team, and in that situation depending on the way the ball would bounce, potentially a TD.(That coupled with the fact that it was the end of the half so a penalty probably wouldnt matter anyways)

He did nothing wrong. However, if it happened the other way around (someone hit a Panther like that) I would probably be pissed, so I can't really say much.

yeah, you're right. so is the other guy. the hit wasn't that illegal. i mean, he wasn't supposed to hit the guy before the ball got there, cause they're suppose to have possession before anyone can touch them... but in this case, wesley had no idea where the ball was, so instead of letting that guy, smith, make a play, he decided to perhaps make a play or take the penalty... but when the buccs cleared their bench, it went downhill from there. at least the brawl wasn't a racial brawl like back in the fifties and sixties. (i'm just sayin...) lol

It's either legal or it's not -- you can't say it wasn't that illegal. The hit was clearly illegal, but I agree that Wesley didn't mean to do it and just did a very poor job of timing the hit.

We've never had any other trouble out of Wesley (that I know of), and he handled himself with class the week after the hit by calling and apologizing to both Smith and Goodell.
