BREAKING: Panthers signing Rashad Penny

Hubbard and Sanders are no where near the same back. They're different type of backs. One is way more finesse and requires an open space to do anything if we're being honest. The other makes something out of nothing and can run between the tackles more effectively.

It is fact that Penny has a better average running and receiving the football than Sanders (and Chuba for that matter). It is also fact that Penny has been way more injured. It's injury that has been his downfall, not a lack of talent. But the best ability is availability, and so we can't bet on Penny being anything more than depth. That doesn't mean that he can't relegate other players to the bench if he can somehow stay healthy.

they are both ideally early down runners.  So they are the same, as in the role they are occupying the same role/purpose for a team.

The more I think about it having Brooks have a very light year combined with his low wear and tear could set him up for a big second season with whoevers QBing us. Rehab get stronger and more nfl ready and you excel in year two and beyond.

What does that even mean? You gave your analysis, he gave his. What's so wrong with what he typed? Trying to make sense of the hostility there........

I couldn’t figure that one out either. I was trying to tippy toe around Young for all the delicate ’that’s my quarterback’ crowd. Well, it isn’t exactly a crowd anymore....

They are still going strong on Panthers twitter, although im starting to see a lot of those fans are on the younger side compared to here.

I'm not that familiar with Penny but his stats are great. The problem is injuries so doesn't he fit in really well as a tool to be used sparingly but for the right jobs? He has injury problems so you don't want him running too many times a game which is fine because with already have Chuba and just drafted Brooks but Penny could be the 3rd and short guy or 4th quarter run it down your throat with the lead guy, no? I don't see him as just depth but another potential weapon that if used correctly could be a very nice piece. He won't have to run the ball 20 times a game here. Mix him into the rotation lightly and use him when you want to pound the defense.

I don't think there were ever many "that's my quarterback" crowds. He had a horrible season. There were a lot of "we don't know what we have because the team is so bad" folk though - myself included.

I didn't think your post was calling out Bryce, seemed more of an acknowledgement that the offense was void of talent. But I guess you really were calling out Bryce. At least you're consistent.

Yes you know I will make my negative comments about Bryce Young’s quarterbacking, darn right. As long as he is inflicted on us, serving up smelly highlights. I wasn’t trying to then though.

It probably is just hard to see stuff talking about a constricted field, likely a limited passing game, and references to a game manager ceiling, tippy toes, etc, as positive.

I was thinking about adapting the pro game to his game. Trying to visualize what that will look like. Trying to imagine how they were going to go about it.

Same as I was doing last year, but that arrived totally DOA and just ghosted.

So we have yet to see what a custom fit 'play to Young’s strengths' offense would look like. I can see in my mind a way it would work, or function. It really isn’t the kind of ball I care about watching though.

Real innovation could make it into something that works in a way that hasn’t been tried, which would be real cool. But the odds say nah,  we are not going to witness the birth of a new and revolutionary NFL trend, not here, not with this bunch. It is gonna the small ball point guard express with lots of handoffs.  Zzzzz.

edit: I guess you are not remembering all the people telling the complainers to go root for the Texans and just being hostile and insulting if you spoke against little brother.

I just watched this guy Penny play a few minutes of football. If he can stay healthy he is a load and can move and catch. Can’t complain. Reminded me a little of Foreman which we missed a lot and is not like anyone else in that room. Good.

While I agree that Chuba is an early down runner, and perhaps the Panthers hopefully thought that Sanders could be an early down runner, the Panthers found out that Sanders does not have the power or the vision to be an early down back. That idea was practically flushed down the can.

wonder what the contract is

Most guys signing after the draft are on minium type deals at best. Most time the guarantee is the issue. My guess would be 320,000 signing bonus along with vet min.

Solid, low stakes signing. I like it well enough. My questions about rub are

1. Does Chuba have any trade value? (Probs not, but more than sanders. Maybe we could get another 5th)

2. Does Tarik Cohen have a shot making the team given the new kickoff rules? I can’t imagine he’s still got it and doubt he makes the team, but with the new kickoff rules, maybe he has the inside track against some of these other backs.

regardless, it will be a fun TC battle to watch (or would be if stepper let us watch)

Been rooting for Cohen.

Penny has the kind of health history that would smack you in the mouf if you didn’t keep your running back room full.

they will still need Chuba and it doesn’t pay to dismiss Sanders
