Everything I read about Brown leading up until the draft last year was that he was a first round talent player. Could we have stuck around with our second pick and had him fall to us, perhaps, but I'm really not terribly upset about the trade I think the kid could be a freak in Meeks' system.

nope, not even close. brown is 1st round talent, hughes is second to third round talent. he does have good awareness when it comes to run stopping off the edge. but probably not as good once converted to the NFL. we made a good choice in picking up brown, he's gonna be a beast this year!

I hate that people do not realize what we got last year in Brown.

Yes, we traded our first round pick THIS year for a DE. DE usually take about 2-3 years to come into their own in the NFL. The FO was probably about 95% sure that we were going to lose Pep this year. Brown was a first round talent that fell into the second. We had a choice, let someone else have him or go ahead and forgo a first round pick in '10 to go ahead and get our DE in '09. I guarantee if Brown would have come out this year as a senior he would be a top 15 to top 10 pick.

If we hadn't of made the trade and still had our first it would be spent on a DE. I would rather have brown than just about anybody that we could get this year. I would much rather have Brown in our system for a year than a rookie.

Thats a bold prediction considering both he and B. Graham have similar size concerns and Graham has more value as a 3-4 OLB and he still might make it to the 2nd. I don't see anyway he is beyond a 2nd this year as well could very well drop into the 3rd.

That's why I'm fine with the trade. Brown was projected to be a mid-to-late first round pick in 2009, and ended up slipping. Go look at any old mock draft from 2009 and most of them have Brown as a 1st rounder.

That's why I think that we'll trade up again this year, it's inevitable that a first round talent will fall further than he's supposed to.

Hughes is a beast, Brown is a Beast. we have Charles Johnson, Everette Brown, Tyler Brayton, and Hilee Taylor that will rotate at DE next year. if we add another DE it should be a veteran to push Brown and Johnson, not another rookie with no experience in the NFL...unless it is someone like Derrick Morgan, JPP, Brandon Graham, or Everson Griffen.:D

I'm a Trojans fan and I don't want EG. Don't get me wrong the kid is an absolute freak and unblockable, when he wants to be. The problem is he has Julius Peppers syndrome. I'll would advise against drafting him, however if we end up with EG on draft day then I will cheer for him just like I would any of our players. I hope he proves me wrong but I saw three years of it at SC.

If Hughes plays as well as a rookie as Brown does this season, then you can make the comparison. Everybody knows that the vast majority of 4-3 DE's make the most progress from year 1 to year 2, and I expect nothing less from Everette Brown. He and his family were already Panthers fans before he was drafted, so he definitely wants to be here and has plenty of motivation to do well.

I am content with the trade. Most of the ones that disagree with the front office disagree with EVERYTHING they do.

IMO Brown ALONE will make us forget Peppers. Don't forget this guy wants to show us he is all about being great. He idolize Pep with the one exception. His motor is on full.

Go Panthers

I don't. I loved letting Pep walk as well as cutting of Lewis and Kemo but not of Hoover and Diggs. You don't have to do either, have blind faith or blind hatred.
