I don't get this at all

Everybody is practically complaining that we need a #2 receiver to complement Steve Smith on the other side but yet everyone wants the Panthers to draft a WR with their 2nd round pick in the draft.

Here is what I don't get: Why is everyone counting on a rookie WR (which, by the way, normally takes atleast two years to develop) to immediately step in and be that #2?

People are so dead set that a WR will be selected with our 1st pick but guys, you need to realize that you are talking about John Fox and Marty Hurney here. Their philosophy is to select the BPA and that position may not be WR come their pick. I just want you folks to realize that if we draft something other then a WR or DE with our 1st (2nd round) pick to not be shocked. I realize that they are under pressure to succeed this year but honestly, a rookie receiver is not going to solve our issues at WR.

It isn't like a rookie cannot contribute their rookie year but I do think that many folks are counting way to much on a WR to be drafted with our 1st pick.

Just be careful what you ask for.

What I don't get is why everyone is counting jarrett out. Id prefer to get a receiver with our 1st pick (shipley), but whoever we do draft id want to be the slot receiver for this year and let smitty mentor him. Jarrett is our #2 right now but if a rookie can beat him out for the spot via training camp/preseason then I would agree with everyone and call jarrett a bust. IMO I think we need a OLB (sean weatherspoon) or DL (Sapp) before a receiver. (That's if either of those players fall to us, I dnt want to trade up at all)

That's why when they say "We don't want Anquan Boldin" or "We haven't a need for Brandon Marshall", what they are really saying is "We have no clue, and we know we won't be here long".

Id rather make a trade for Marshall than draft any player in the 2nd round. This organization hasn't shown that they can simplify the playbook enough for a rookie WR to come in and impact the game. I didn't want Boldin because he is injury prone and already 30. Marshall on the other hand is only 26 and is only going to get better. I'd trade a 2nd rounder and another pick this year to get Brandon Marshall. Moore needs some more weapons...

Jarrett sucks. He has had his opportunities and hasn't even gotten on the field. We need to go out and get someone or Moore is going to get blitzed all year long without any penalty because they will still be able to double cover Steve.

There is no doubt in my mind that we will have another WR on this team. You don't go into the season with one proven WR. It would be the second dumbest move in Hurney's tenure, only behind the Delhomme contract.

Brandon Marshall is a drama queen, he's a good player with a lot of talent but he's to risky for our system. Plus I'm sure him and smitty wouldn't be able to control their tempers betweebetween eachother on or off the field. I was hopin to get Anquan he woulda been a great fit for our team there is only one negative thing abt him and that's he has been accustomed to the west coast offence in Arizona and I'm not sure how his blocking skills are

I agree with u for the most part but jarrett only seems to suck bc he had jake throwing him the ball (well not throwing him the ball bc all jake ever did was lock on smitty and forced passes that shouldn't off been thrown when other receiver were open). Jarrett is unproven but so isn't a rookie, I'm sure that if jarrett gets the playing time this year he will surprise all of the people who downgrade him and talk poo abt him all the time, I can't wait for it to happen just to shut the fans up and prove you all wrong

In every opportunity he has been given, he has caught everything.. Don't get your logic there.

But how do you know that a rookie receiver is proven if he has even played a down in the NFL?

I won't be really mad if we go DE or DT in the 2nd if Dunlap, Sapp, Griffen, or Alualu falls(or MOUNT CODY). I dont see Sean Weatherspoon falling to us at 48, but whatever, as long as we take a WR with one of our 1st 2 picks im good.

Id want to draft tyson alualu just bc the jersey looks badass in ur sig.

The FO is set in giving young/inexperienced guys (including Jarrett) opportunities this season why would the wide receiver position be any different? I think that's what they mean when they say these guy are not a good 'fit'. This will be the most unpredictable year in a long long time for the Panthers.

I'm SO tired of people blaming Jarrett's shortcomings on Jake. Jake had one horrible season. Not three. Hurney said it himself in his interview on WFNZ: it's up to him (Jarrett) if he starts.

That means one thing and one thing only, he has yet to earn the trust of the coaching staff and the QB (no trust means you WILL lock in on other targets). If he had come to practice prepared and ready to go...Jake would have felt more comfortable throwing his way and Davidson would've designed more plays going to DJ. That didn't happen. The kid just doesn't have it and may never find it.

Don't blame his lack of playing time on Jake. That's retarded.

    • i think i go in the opposite direction of most. my ideal retirement is living in some old downtown area in a flat above some shop or something.  life out in the country was just something i got real tired of. My kids actually miss some of living out there, which i understand. that was where they grew up for the most part. 40 acres with a 2.5 acre pond. it was beautiful, but also way too much (and too expensive) for me to keep up with.
    • FLASHBACK: I remember back when ESPN was just starting--he was their anchor.  They used to show stuff like Rodeo and field hockey--I remember laughing when he went to a commercial mocking a cycling competition in Utah (or something similar--I made that up) and I laughed.  I told my dad, "We may have us a new anchor when we get back from commercial."  When they came back from commercial, Berman was looking very serious and he said, "Any comments by me do not reflect the views of ESPN....The men and women who cycle are dedicated athletes and we are honored to shine light on their sport." (Paraphrasing).  Dad laughed hysterically. My first memory of him--and that was like 1980.
    • Might not have a team without them. Although that probably applies to the Panthers, too.
