ARTICLE: Rams paid a big price in trade with Panthers to move up 13 spots for Braden Fiske

This is getting overlooked IMO. It was a great trade and we still got the player we wanted in Brooks. It’s nice to be on this side of a trade for once…

This is why I say that Dan Morgan did his job. People are saying this draft was the same ol’ Panthers under Tepper but it really felt different taking it in, including the process. To me, it seems like Tepper let go of the reigns and let the football people he pays millions for do their job.

I don’t mind Tepper having input, but he’s a fan, like the rest of us. He may have some preferences and may even get some poo right, but let the people who have been doing this their entire professional lives handle evaluations, contracts, and the like.

It was kind of a sexy draft, and you really didn't even have to get drunk to realize it.

the Rams don't give a rip about draft picks.

this draft aside, McVay has never had a 1st round pick in his career and paired that with missing his 2nd a couple years on top of no 1st.  They got 2 NFC Championships and Super Bowl during that window.   Under valuing them has at least worked for them overall.

It is crazy how they don’t care at all about high draft picks and have been successful.

It felt exactly like the 2021 draft to me, and even the positions selected were almost exactly the same. Time will tell of course but it was certainly not anything all that different

They've hit on their lower picks and been trading their 1sts for proven star vets. It would be a different story if their later picks weren't working and not every team could pull it off, but they've worked it for sure.

...I mean where is Fitt now.....NOT IN THE NFL!

He's laying low somewhere praying Young becomes the next Russell Wilson, just like he knew he would be. Had to be the only reason he had a boner for him.

Yes, but also, their best player the last few year was drafted: Aaron Donald

Just another Dipper snow job. You'd think we lived in Denver..

Here is how it breaks down:

Rams trade us pick 52 (380 pts) and pick 152 (29.8--- 30 points rounded, totaling 410 points) for pick 39 (510) points. So basically, the 2024 draft trade was Rams give us 410 points for 510 points--a difference of 100 points.

Panthers give Rams 510 points.

Rams give Panthers 410 points (2nd and 5th) in 2024

  • If the Rams win the Super Bowl in 2024, they would still give the Panthers the 64th pick, or 270 points.  Worst case scenario for the Panthers is the get a total of 680 points of value for the 510 points they gave the Rams.  The difference is 170 points.
  • If the Rams finish 2024 like they did 2023, the Panthers will receive 380 points in 2025.  That means the Panthers get about 790 points for 510 points, a difference of 280 points.
  • If the Rams have the worst record in the NFL in 2024, they would give the Panthers 580 more points than the 410 already given--990 total points for a 510 point pick value.  The difference is 440 points.

But you have to remember, future draft picks have a value of one round less than the current draft year.  It is like an investment of a 2024 third rounder that will mature into a second rounder in a year.  So if you want to see how much we bested the Rams, you have to take that into consideration.

If you want to do that, then you have to weigh the trade using a current third rounder and not a second rounder.

  • Panthers:  510 points for pick 39
  • Rams:  600 points:  380 points for 2024 pick 52 and 30 points for pick 152.  Third round value in 2024:  190 points.

That is the equivalent of having the Rams throw in an additional early fourth round selection on top of the deal.  So it depends on how you look at it--to me, getting the 2025 second rounder was so important, I might have agreed to much less to get it.

this is such a bullshit rationale that is fed from GM's.  A future second is worth exactly a future 2nd for a franchise.  It may not be apples to apples in regards to gm as they may not be choosing.  But there is no negative value assign for trading picks in the future.  It makes no sense to try and devalue.  If so then you would see the adverse affect in play

    • NFL Pro has the All-22 up already 😄 Going to grab a play or two from each redzone series to put screenshots to. Looks like AT angled his route off to the near pylon rather than the back corner where Bryce was throwing to. I imagine this is something they'll quickly try to figure out with Thielen back from IR. After watching the All-22 again, this was actually a pretty nifty play. I thought it was a TE screen to Tremble because of the way XL charged the DB, but he quickly shed and kept upfield as seen in the second screenshot. This looks like it had multiple layers built into it with AT running the crosser, XL the fade, Tremble to the flat. The progression would call for the play to go to Chuba here as the LB does follow Tremble out into the flat. Ball hits Chuba low and in the hands, but the LB does a good job disrupting the catch.
    • The bottom lines to me are that a) we played well enough to beat the best team in the league and b) Bryce Young is growing into a bridge QB role (his ceiling) for us. As much as I don't want BY around after the season, it seems DC can still build the O with a game manager at QB for now. Best case scanario, we can build the D through the draft this year and take a QB we have conviction outside the 1st this or next draft. If BY keeps improving, we are going to win a couple more games this year.
    • Bryce has been a completely different QB since coming back. That started in Denver where it was obviously he was playing a lot more loose and willing to push the ball downfield  Bryce continues to build off of the previous weeks performance and that’s what you want to see Bryce has been making some real good anticipation throws. Reading defenses well. Pushing the ball downfield (7 throws of 20+ air yards yesterday. 8 if you want to include PI to Thielen). The deep ball accuracy has been there. Some of Young’s best throws yesterday were incompletions. Sideline balls to XL and Moore both should’ve been caught. RZ dot to Tremble should’ve been caught. And another RZ ball to Moore that Young gave him a chance at. Bryce is starting to execute Canales offense and yesterday Canales finally opened it up a bit. Canales was to blame for the 126 passing yards in Germany as he played a more conservative game.  The next bit I’m looking for his for Young to be a bit more decisive with running the ball. Start putting that on film and it’ll help open things up a tad
