Are Brooks and Legette Day 1 Starters?

Recommended Posts

What do you think? Will Brooks be 100% to start the season coming back from an ACL? Will he immediately beat out Chubba and Sanders for RB1?

Is Leggete starting out on the outside with Deiontae Johnson  on the other side? Will they just stick Theilen and Mingo in the slot??

ACL on average takes NFL players 49.7 weeks to return to the field.  Brooks went down mid Nov.  56% that return re- injured themselves in 10 weeks.

Brooks probably shouldn’t be a day 1 starter.   Even if he is trending on the early side of that average and young. Carolina should move slow.

Brooks himself confirmed he's already running and will be ready for training camp come July.  There's diff types of tears and a 6th month recovery for a clean tear linesn up.

If that's the case, I think he's getting snaps immediately and that could be bulk/majority by midseason worst case.

He’ll be ready but we will ease him in just because he’s a rookie. Imagine he’s RB1 around week 6. XL doesn’t really matter if he is named starter or not, he will get a ton of playing time

And, well, there may not be another team with more experience in successfully returning a guy from a knee injury. Let's take it slow, play the long game with him and hopefully it pays off big.

If he doesn't see the field until late November, early December, he's going to be fresh at the right time.

Brooks would have started if he wasn't returning from injury but I think half way through the season will see increase in reps.

XL better start day 1  or he wasn't the right pick.

I'd let him lead a committee from day 1 if he gets in a full training camp but yeah wouldn't consider at any point this season giving him full bellcow back duties. Maybe an exception if we are in the playoff mix late and he's that much better than our other backs but even then I'd be hesitant. Need him to be healthy and contributing for us longer term, not just this year.

Leggette doesn't need to start day 1 either. Regardless of when he was taken he's a 2nd rounder. He should certainly contribute day 1.

Day 1 is irrelevant really. What matters is the years these guys contribute not the games first season

    • What I really learned here is that the Carolina Panthers aren't anywhere near as bad as I initially thought they were earlier this year.  We've got a young and growing offense with some promising parts. But it still needs some tweaks and improvements.  We really still could still use a dominant #1 WR. But Chubba,  Legette, Coker,  and J.Sanders have generally looked decent. Bryce took a big leap after the benching. We can score enough points to keep pace with 2x defending super bowl champions, so offense isn't a huge issue. Main thing that needs improvement is defense. We sorely need a CB 2, and a number of new players at Dline and LB.  We're not quite as bad at edge with Wonnum showing promise.  But we definitely need 1 or 2 more edges Clowney is old.  Run D is probably worse prevailing theme these past couple years. We really need a good young stud or two to pair with Derrick Brown and another LB to pair up with Trevin Wallace. If Morgan and Canales can focus on rebuilding the defense this off-season and possibly going out and getting a #1 WR. This team could easily be somewhere around 7-10 to 10-7 and flirting with playoffs in 1 or 2 seasons. Overall this game has made me feel alot more positive about the direction of the team.
    • With our picks we need pass rush, lb, Safety, a speedster yac wr, o line depth and I still want a mid round qb. We got 9 picks and 8 in the first 5 rounds. If they pull Off another solid draft we be cooking.
    • We had one passing touchdown against the Giants and one passing touchdown against the Chiefs today. Yes a good backup can replicate that. And that is why Andy Dalton in significantly less games has the same number of 30 point outings as Bryce Young. I am on board with you guys about wanting to be hopeful for the future. Today was a good performance to build on especially at home. But let's please keep things in perspective. BTW the Bucs who honestly aren't even that good blew the doors off the Giants today after we went to overtime against them with 17 points. Again. Perspective.
