Wallace is supposedly a loose cannon and needs to be developed a bit-good special teamer and depth, but the depth issue at ILB is real---we will probably add a LB after cuts this summer.

Where have you seen that? I've only read pretty upstanding things on the dude.  Unless you mean on the field? But that phrase typically refers to attitude.

Full disclosure I probably wouldnt have blown a high pick on wilson, but if last year was his peak he is still going to be a damn good linebacker for pitt.  Dude was a master player caller and simply all over the field.  The not having an acl is curious as hell because he was unstoppable last season

Steelers say he's already running the defense. We shall see.

I was not clear--I was watching a video on him and they said he was too aggressive and used to miss assignments--good athlete with good upside.  Not sure where I saw it--I will look for it and share if I find it--I watched the video and agreed that he often overstepped and left his cut back responsibilities, took aggressive false steps on misdirection, etc.--nothing that can't be fixed, but it suggested that he was mentally undisciplined.  that was my take on it. I also read that he was the highest rated LB to play at KY--

I had no concerns about the player but I have a lot of concerns about his ability to stay on the field. Odds are he's the Jaycee Horn of LBs.

Did Horn have a significant injury history in college? I didn't think he did but may be wrong

I don't think so. I have a hard time believing he would've been a top 10 pick if he had. Wilson was a 3rd rounder because of the huge injury risk.

Not sure if you saw that Franchise Guy full Panther Breakdown but he called Wallace the worst player in D1 football but with great upside. Lol. Time to take the D. picks out of Everos hands. Udfa DJ Johnson in the 3rd followed by the worst player in D1 in the 3rd. Imagine if this guy was gifted good players. Just let him coach.

Yeah, I just have a hard time making the comparison cause Horn may seem fragile now but wasn't in college. Wilson, tho... I share your concerns.

I'm just talking about a good player who rarely plays due to injury. They're not really comparable as prospects with one being a top 10 pick and one being 3rd rounder.

Yeah I understand now - tbh I didn't follow Horn at all before the draft so I didn't know if maybe he did have injury history

Average Backup Or Special-Teamer

Strengths

Explosive athlete.

Rangy with good chase-down gallop to the sideline.

Burst and change of direction make him a toolsy rusher.

Hands are very sticky when he gets his chances to take the ball away.

Lateral agility to expand his short-area tackle success.

Weaknesses

Play recognition and football instincts are lacking.

Frequently fooled by misdirection in both run and pass games.

Lacks patience and leverage in his scrape, allowing cutback lanes to runners.

Pulled out of position by bait routes in his spot drops.

Pass rush could use more elusiveness when diving into A- or B-gaps.

To me, his weaknesses sound like it's related to how the defensive line plays. If he doesn't trust the line to be where they are supposed to be, he may feel the need to jump on misdirection, he may have to commit more than he wants to one play type or another, and he was likely always getting head on blocks in A Gap and B Gap blitzing, rather than just getting chipped because his line couldn't hold their spot.

You can't coach his strengths. You can coach his weaknesses and you can help him by having a dominant middle.

That and the fact he might be a one contract player given the age.

All that being said, I still would have preferred we gambled on him than someone like Wallace.

Wallace just so clearly is in the mold of a Fitterer/Rhule "I'm smarter than everyone else" selection.

At this point, stop being cute. Get players who can just fuging play.

I feel like this is something we have lost the ability to do as a franchise.

    • NFL Pro has the All-22 up already 😄 Going to grab a play or two from each redzone series to put screenshots to. Looks like AT angled his route off to the near pylon rather than the back corner where Bryce was throwing to. I imagine this is something they'll quickly try to figure out with Thielen back from IR. After watching the All-22 again, this was actually a pretty nifty play. I thought it was a TE screen to Tremble because of the way XL charged the DB, but he quickly shed and kept upfield as seen in the second screenshot. This looks like it had multiple layers built into it with AT running the crosser, XL the fade, Tremble to the flat. The progression would call for the play to go to Chuba here as the LB does follow Tremble out into the flat. Ball hits Chuba low and in the hands, but the LB does a good job disrupting the catch.
    • The bottom lines to me are that a) we played well enough to beat the best team in the league and b) Bryce Young is growing into a bridge QB role (his ceiling) for us. As much as I don't want BY around after the season, it seems DC can still build the O with a game manager at QB for now. Best case scanario, we can build the D through the draft this year and take a QB we have conviction outside the 1st this or next draft. If BY keeps improving, we are going to win a couple more games this year.
    • Bryce has been a completely different QB since coming back. That started in Denver where it was obviously he was playing a lot more loose and willing to push the ball downfield  Bryce continues to build off of the previous weeks performance and that’s what you want to see Bryce has been making some real good anticipation throws. Reading defenses well. Pushing the ball downfield (7 throws of 20+ air yards yesterday. 8 if you want to include PI to Thielen). The deep ball accuracy has been there. Some of Young’s best throws yesterday were incompletions. Sideline balls to XL and Moore both should’ve been caught. RZ dot to Tremble should’ve been caught. And another RZ ball to Moore that Young gave him a chance at. Bryce is starting to execute Canales offense and yesterday Canales finally opened it up a bit. Canales was to blame for the 126 passing yards in Germany as he played a more conservative game.  The next bit I’m looking for his for Young to be a bit more decisive with running the ball. Start putting that on film and it’ll help open things up a tad
