Matt Miller: 1st round could have 8 WR’s

I mean it depends on the draft class.  Look at the receivers taken in 2020.  Tee Higgins was the 7th WR taken at 33 and Michael Pittman Jr was taken right after him.

Point taken, but I counter by looking at some of the guys that slipped by them, a ton of good/great corners and safeties.   Tons of value.  Which is why I hope we slightly trade back

Huddle Logic: everyone will be taken before our pick =P  That's what it usually comes to around draft time.

Given the depth of the WR class, please let 5 QBs, 8 WRs, and 5 OTs get taken in the first!  Please!  That would be great for us!

picking the 9th best wr at 33 while overlooking some top tier guys that have slipped would most certainly be a panther thing to do

Picking up a Tee type or a Cooper Cupp light would be essential to helping develop our Qb and team. Optics are important also even though I agree we might pass up a top talent at another position because we have to show effort by getting weapons to help out Bryce’s development. Houston has a arsenal of weapons for Stroud, all young top Qbs get big time help by year two Chase Hurts etc… A stud rookie DJ and veteran  AT should be the minimum we bring to the table.

I think I read that there are about 22 players with first round grades this year, and normally that number is around 18-which indicates that there is more depth in this draft than others.  OT, QB, WR---loaded this year.  I also like the CB crop after day 1.  This draft fits our needs pretty well, and it seems, based on free agency that we are positioned to get a WR, ILB, and then CB in this draft.  I expect a TE later.  I understand the desire to draft a C, but they are showing no signs of it.  Looks like Corbett and Mays are the guys.

To me, ILB has less depth and is better at the top (thinking round 2 here) than CB, so I expect to see the #33 pick to be a WR and the #39 pick to be an ILB.  Pick 65 could be a TE or CB.  I also think we could double dip at ILB or CB.

If they pass on Powers Johnson (doubt he drops) but you would definitely be right then. No interest in Center whatsoever. That guy would give us the best offensive line in the league even if Ickey struggles. Christianson is no scrub. Love that Sweat guy for the DL to but need wideouts. Hellz, I need five picks in the 30's to come away happy. Yeah then I could throw in Cb and Inside backer. Guess this going to take two years.

Threading the needle at choosing the 8thish best wr is infinitely more difficult then choosing say the 3rdish best guard/tackle/corner etc.   The margins are way tighter when you are chasing a run on players especially with this scouting dept

if jpj drops to 33, (spoiler he wont) Morgan has to run the card up to the podium ASAP

I dont see any mock where he as falling, crazier things have happened but if he stumbles he should most def be the pick, kid is an animal

This is also a good point because two players passed on in that draft we just acquired Hunt and Lewis top preforming inside guards. So I completely understand taking the great value that falls to you but the way the qb looked last year it’s going to be hard to pass up a good weapon for him.

And YGM and Chaisson were two edges available around Justin Jefferson, Higgins and Pittman. I don’t think 33 will be WR9 and if it is, I’d think the couple guys we were hoping for got snagged.

End of the day, all that matters is we pick the correct guy or one of the correct guys.

I have a feeling that either him or Chop Robinson will be there at 33, and if so it should be a no brainer. Not sure how good of an indication mock drafts are, but both have started to slip to late 1st, and occasionally, early second lately.
