How Much is Coaching?

Recommended Posts

Sure, we'd all like to look at 6 straight seasons of playoff hockey and think the Canes are the antithesis of what we have for professional sports in NC- the Hornets and the Panthers. But each year, as we look forward to the second season of hockey, there's yet another gremlin that halts the rod to the ultimate success. Whether it's untimely injuries at the end of the season, a scoring drought or just meeting a goal tender who happens to be playing out of his mind, the Cup has eluded Raleigh for those 6 straight seasons.

Tom Waddell does what has never been done in Canes history- brings in a couple of exceptional talents at the trade deadline that appear, on paper, to be what can push this team over the top. There is immediate success... followed by a plateau. And here we are again- the inability to score goals heading into the playoffs where 1 or 2 goals per game isn't going to cut it. RBA tinkers with lines, opts to play best-on-best lines instead of putting the checking line on the opponents top line, etc.

When does the captain say something? When do any of the bench assistants step in and point out the challenges? Why did RBA take a step back from the line combinations that were putting up over 3 GPA for a 2-week stretch? At what point do we start to look at the head coach and hold him as accountable as we hold the players?

Here is the issue. Rods system doesn’t really allow for a 60 goal scorer like Matthew’s.  It’s all team passes and more passes. Think team scoring. When the team is cooking, we can score. We it’s not, well, it’s 0-2 goals.  Like last night.  When a goalie is hot, we can’t solve them.  Like last night. It’s all rods system. I’m not saying get rid of Rod. No way, but playoffs Rod and regular season rod are two different animals.  One is elite, the other is average to ok.

Lol, I think we're clearly spoiled as a fan base. I remember being the laughing stock of the league for so many years...I get it. People want another cup...so do I, but I'm going to enjoy this while it last! Rod brought the last cup...I have faith he'll do it again!!

As long as Rod changes the lines I’ll be happy. And as ABH said stop sending top vs. top(1v1 2v2 etc. We have a shutdown line for a reason, put it the fug back together and use it!

Staal, Martinook and Fast. That’s why last change is so important at home during the playoffs. Love it.

Winning the Stanley Cup isn't easy, we have gotten a little spoiled with being a top team in the NHL the last 3-4 years.  The stars need to align and the team has to give every ounce of blood, sweat, and tears they have.

Also split Necas and Kuz FFS. They have combined for 15 points over the past 15 games. If you cut that down to 10, they have 11 points combined. If you cut that down to 5, they have 2 points combined for 1 goal.

I’ve said it since we got Kuz. Necas + Kuz aren’t conducive to each other. When will Rod fugging realize it isn’t working. Svech and Jarvis would be much better matches on a line with Kuz. Necas would be much better with a faster(both skating speed and play style) C like Drury or even Aho.

Every time this thread comes up I say the same thing.

We are too one-dimensional. Get pucks in deep, forecheck, cycle, and then throw the puck at the net.

It works when we are head and shoulders better than our opponent, but when our opponent is good enough in their own end, it can create issues offensively for us.

It’s been proven that more high danger scoring chances come from the rush rather than cycling the puck. So if you’d like to know why we outshoot our opponent by 15 but only win by one goal, this is the reason why.

I like the idea of putting Necas with better transition players and letting that line try to score on the rush more.

Give me:

Guentzel - Aho - Necas

Svechnikov - Kuznetsov - Jarvis

Martinook - Staal - Fast

Noesen - Drury - Teravainen

Lemieux - Kotkaniemi

Slavin - Burns

Skjei - Pesce

Orlov - Chatfield

DeAngelo - Morrow

Andersen

Kochetkov

Martin
