Where did I say that? Oh I didn't? Hmm...

So I guess you agree that it's not really relevant to bring up 2 year old 40 times when discussing a player's speed. I don't really know why you brought them up in the first place. Usually if somebody brings up some 40 times they're trying to convey a correlation.

Beason played OLB his rookie year, and he didn't have trouble with it, even though he ran a slower 40 (injured or no). Therefore speed shouldn't be an issue with Connor like everyone is making it out to be.

So to me this is a non-issue, but I was attempting to alleviate concern about the subject.

Does the SLB often have to cover the TE on pass plays though? Obviously depends on if you're playing man or zone and what the route is but as you're lined up against him I'd have thought you'd be covering him often.

You are right. He does cover the TE particularly in man. Good news is that most TEs run in the 4.6 to 4.9 range. Connor should be able to keep up since he is in the 4.6 range. (Might be slower or faster after knee rehab).

I don't know why people think Connor is slow, he's never given any evidence of it.

Not only was his 40 time respectable for linebackers, his shuttle drills were outstanding. At a position where the initial reaction and quick changes of direction are more important than running fast in a straight line, Connor should excel. And he played OLB for most of his career at Penn St.

I really don't know where he gets the "slow" rap from. It makes no sense in the context of what he's actually done.

Connor obviously caught the attention of GM's with his late season play. I'm betting that once they watched or rewatched some gameday tape on him, they saw a lot to like probably better execution and technique than most of us fans viewed on TV (even though we all liked what we saw). In other words, this guy has got some serious upside.

I'm leaning on him being the favorite in camp for the starting spot.

By the way, Beason had a sore back at the Combine and ran a 4.7 40. On his pro day he ran a 4.6. He also had a 31.5 vertical leap, a 10' broad jump, a 4.34 short shuttle, a 6.89 cone.

Connor's numbers at the combine were 4.67 40, 35" vertical leap, 9'7" broad jump, 4.25 short shuttle, and a 6.78 cone. Yet people say he's slow while Beason's fast.
