Unnecessary Bluntness: Do Panthers already have a draft crush?

Making contested catches in college is different than doing it in the NFL.  Most of the best contested catch makers in the NFL didnt really even have to do it much in college because they got open.

I mean, there was just a Mike Williams thread that went 100 pages.  Mike was doing that in college.  Everyone remembers them winning the title off the Renfrow pick play.  How did they get there? Signature Mike Williams making the same type catches he ended up in the pros being known for.  That was the biggest catch on that game winning drive. Completely covered and going up and making a play.

@Tr3achis right though. There is a tough transition winning jump balls against college CBs vs NFL.  We flopped on a couple jump ball specialists in Benjamin, TMJ, Jarrett etc… Williams may be solid at it but his health has become an issue in the process.

I mean, he wasn't one of the top WRs in all the SEC off just catching jump balls.

I never got KB.  Just like I don't get the 2 right now at FSU people are talking about.

and again, I'm talking Leggette at the top of the 3rd round.  Which is a WAY better deal if he is there than Mingo was or a lot of these dudes people talk about at 33.

Top of the 3rd is good value. I would prefer other options at 33 and 39, but I’m not against him. He seems to have good explosiveness after the catch which is something we desperately need. Our guys now just fall over after they catch the ball.

I've looked at his catches. He absolutely does get open, even on some of the jump ball catches. Those aren't easy. But he's more than a jump ball guy. And this is not to say that he doesn't need polish, but he can absolutely get open. He just needs more consistency and to be coached up.

It just seems to me thats what we always try to prioritize instead of just receivers who run good routes and get open, and it's basically never worked.

I 100% think we are targeting him at 33 or 39

We do not have an X WR in this offense, I think they like his physical build and production and believe he is an ascending player.

I don't hate the idea but I do hate locking into one guy predraft. You can have your guys, but if a top talent falls you can't pass on that to draft him

Like i said im with drafting him if available, i would like to get him a lil later but that can be a gamble so im find if they take him at 33. I get all the measurables and everything but he also passes the eye test and he is clearly a better player than mingo coming out. If im wrong down the road then im just wrong and will admit it. I dont make excuses like others.

agreed. he's got some rawness to him, but he's also got a lot of natural talent. he doesn't just fight for the ball, he gets it. and when he has that ball in his hand he's just as tough to bring down. plus,  he's got some hustle to him.

he's just exciting to watch. he makes it fun and we need that.

I mean, he is raw and is currently developing at a pretty significant rate.   So to me, he just doesn't compare to a Mingo.   They just were on two different projectories in college and coming into the draft.

I mean, I want Mitchell, Ladd, the Texans boys, etc. at 33rd.  My Leggette talk is about getting him on a double dip in the 3rd.  If someone wants to draft him before that, so be it.   There is always a team, sometimes us, that over drafts someone out of need.  I just think WRs could fall in this one given how many good prospects their are.

    • We could easily pick apart yesterday’s game: dropped passes, blown coverages, bad tackling and red zone issues to name a few. But it was clear that this wasn’t the same team from earlier in the season. They fought back and hung with the champs until the end. That’s what I was excited to see and it gives me hope that we’re on the right track.
    • I think BY played well today and exceeded expectations. I will temper future expectations as he has to string together many games of consistent quality. One game doesn’t convince me that he is a franchise QB or even a guy you want to stick with for another season. One game doesn’t erase all the negative play and limitations from the past couple of years. I hope he balls out and continues to get better but for me the verdict is still out   That said, I think he gave the team and fans hope yesterday which is a lot more than what we had when we woke up Sunday morning.
    • He was vastly improved today and we need to see more of Bryce the rest of the season to continue evaluate him in order to decide what the heck to do with him at the end of the season. He must play at least like this and improve more from here the rest of the season in order for me to keep him. No more 123 yard passing games and want to see at least this output weekly from him. If this is Bruce improving slowly over time then Canales is even better with developing QB's than I thought he was but still too early to tell and we need to see him the rest of the way as he has at very least earned back the starting gig moving forward.
