Tebow's pre-Wonderlic prayer request falls flat

I guess call me an idiot, if it makes you feel better about your big-headed self! I guess I am one of the blind souls walking this earth with no purpose....you need to watch the personal attacks, though. Not one person here has made fun of you or put you down because of your non-belief, what makes you any better?

:banghead:

If the teachings of the people who wrote the Bible are more important to you than advancements in Science and Mathematics, you should contract cancer and see how long prayer alone gets you in comparison to medical treatment...

Religion staves off knowledge seekers with presented absolution or "WORD OF GOD"...

Science, Mathematics, and other fundamentals of true philosophy are the complete opposite, and encourage people to learn things on their own...

If you can accept the Bible as literal truth and give it profound influence on human progress, you are an idiot... If anything it has promoted the blind acceptance of anything and everything, and caused most of humanity to be robots and slaves...

Ah, the almighty Science argument. It's amazing how so many poo-poo the failings of others beliefs while ignoring the failings of their own.

I have made no personal attacks... If you were offended, maybe you have some underlying guilt in the paths you have chosen in life...

...and as far as the failings of Science... Please direct me to anywhere where I have stated that Science is imperfect or the absolute law... The difference in Science and religion, which you fail miserably at understanding apparently, is that Science doesn't claim to have all the answers, while religion most certainly does... illogical as they may be...

I've said it before in this thread... I don't know, and you don't either...

But that is exactly my point. I haven't assumed the arrogance of knowing to the point that it is my responsibility to "wake people the fug up". The obvious insinuation that you have made (for anyone with eyes to see) is that people that have their lives guided by religion/faith are contrary to those that put their daily mores in the maxims of science.

Granted, I have seemingly come into the back-end of this "discussion", but it strikes me that you are the one slinging the accusations of being ignorant/thick-headed/slow or whatever other "non-insult" you can casually toss an opposing view's way.

From what I can tell, Mr Scott wasn't taking such a stance... you are.

Oh sure, they are (for the most part) doing the Christ-like thing of turning the other cheek... be it out of genuine lack of desire to debate it, or because of inability to do so... That is their luxury in having the majority of the human race behind them...

This discussion couldn't have happened "back in the day" because religious folk would have hunted me down and burned me at the stake or something...

I'm just excercising my right to state the obvious, and if you don't like it, stop responding... You're only encouraging me...

I bet you will respond anyways...

I think I speak for many on this thread that perhaps you should heed your own advice. If your position cannot even stand up to debate, then perhaps you should revisit its foundations.

I fully support your right to express yourself. I actually encourage it... obviously. I believe that your expressed opinion is actually typical of the mindset of most that I know today.

In this forum, it is out in the open and viewpoints can be challenged accordingly. Anyone of a mindset to truly take in all viewpoints for serious consideration can now have it fully laid out on the table by those that firmly believe them and see their beliefs drawn out to their logical ends. Is there anything more to your belief outside of "you don't know and I don't know, so you should believe that"?

I don't think it "hurts" me as much as it amuses me... I see it as my duty to try and wake people the f**k up to their own absurd belief system.... sorry...

You might not care if a guy rolls out a rug, but I can pretty much assure you that if it happened, most of the same hypocrites here defending Timmy T's right to pray would not jump to the defense of the said Muslim...

This is the hypocrisy of "Christians" today... You can have all the rights you want as long as nothing takes away from your Jesus stuff...

It is the same as an actor accepting an award and thanking God... It is nothing more than appealing to the masses... What about the people that didn't win? Did God just decide to poo on them for the day?

"Thank God for picking me to win in this situation over someone else..."

Yeah... That's what a just and loving God would be all about, right?

A person's mom, a receiver's hands, the Academy, etc. are all tangible things... Not an idea thought up to define something that cannot be defined without an extraordinary imagination...

WOW... Excellent post SLJ.

My thinking is along the same side as yours, the only difference is I choose not to explain to the believers how absorb some things are. People are too defensive and cannot allow themselves to think outside of the box or challenge what they were told at a young age.

It's funny, I know Christians who look back at let’s say... Greek Mythologies and Gods and laugh at how absurd their beliefs were... But the funny thing is that they are the exact same. The Greeks grew up believing there were these different gods for all these different things. That’s what their family believed in, their ancestors, whatever. The reason most people are Christian is because their family are. If they were born in India they would probably be passionate about Hinduism.

I also don't understand why people pray to God for a victory in a sports game... Like he is supposed to grant your prayer and lift your team to victory. The Golden Calf of Bristol can pray all he wants, it's still not going to make him a better player. Also God is not going to give him answers to the wonderlic test or improve his draft stock....

Look people...

I know I come across as an asshole most of the time...

In reality, I feel like I am far from being that type of person...

I will always argue points that I have put a great deal of my life into a higher understanding of, and I'm sorry if you get offended because, to misquote a line from Star Wars, "I find your faith disturbing"...

It sickens me to know that people, on a daily basis, humble themselves to some sort of supernatural being that is higher than themself... Do you not see the constant belittlement of your own successes that this mindset brings?

Not only that, but religion has been a driving factor to some of the worst events in human history...

True, the Bible and books like it can be good sources of inspiration in our daily lives, but so can things like interactions with your fellow human beings... I feel that those experiences (other books and human interaction and understanding) are what those so adherent to primitive beliefs are missing, and that is a tragedy to me...

Therefore, I feel it is my duty to guide people down the paths that I myself have traveled, and steer them away from primitive thought and blind faith... This is the opposite of what religion teaches...

And while many points of your post contain truth, your condescension belies your ego and presumed wisdom in the face of a true attempt at discussion of that very matter.
