WOW that is a MASSIVE list! lol

for ancient times it's practically the encyclopedia brittanica.

when examining ancient texts, documents, or historical figures, you have to view them in a different light... because of the differences in technology over two millenniums, it's not fair to judge a document from 100 bc by the same standards you'd judge one from 1900.

by the same token, you can't expect there to be a host of sources on ANY event or person from that era. it's not like today where you can just go to wikipedia and write your own opinion (read: source) on the subject and add to the list. even if large amounts of sources were written, the likelihood of all of them surviving two thousand years of weather and wars is pretty small.

Organized religion is what leads The Golden Calf of Bristol to believe it's a good idea to put bible verses on his eye black, what tells the evangelical southern baptist that he needs to show you the way to salvation or you'll burn in hell. THIS is the problem, not Jesus'/Buddha's existence or teachings. Those are the things worth following.

Now this I can agree with.

The debate over historical figures existence is irrelevant imo.

The issues that got this debate going stem from Organized Religion, which has been problematic for centuries.

Organized Religion= Mind control for the masses, it's that simple. It's what tells you to repent or go to hell, to tithe 10% of your income or be shamed, and to do what you are told.

All of this is based on a book written at a time when a tiny portion of the population could actually read and write, scribes were very few and far between and controlled what made it into books and records.

Imagine if today the only outlet reporting news was either Fox news or MSNBC, pretty scary huh?

The truth exists somewhere in the middle, like always, but to assume that any organized religion has YOUR best interests at heart is laughable.

wow zcustom huge let down..lol

I say lock it before I have to give my opinion, cuz it's all downhill after that

If someone told me i had to worship Caesar and build my life around him. i'd be more concerned about if he existed or not.

they do, one of its names is Marxism and its on the rise again.

There is also Gaia worship on the rise again in the West, preached from the puplits of our postmodern culture(AVATAR being the latest big example) and of course the Jihad thing, and global Caliphate. All competiting against each other in the present, battle of the "gods"

the idea that Jesus never, ever existed is saying that it is the most gigantic, most powerful Conspiracy theory of all time. The most famous name in all of Human History, never existed. The basis of our Calendar, a fraud. the basis of western Civilization a fraud. the foundations of Western Hospitals and charities, all based on a lie made up long ago about someone who 'never existed'.

and if prepared to move away from the historical proofs, and the fact all truth is objectively known by Revelation...and prepared to move into the Philosophical realm.

a classic start is this famous debate:

and the age old, Plato and before, big question of how do you have "Unity within Diversity", one true source of truth binding all mankind together, etc. That Plato, Aristotle and to present day can not rationally, logically answer.

The founding fathers knew the answer, as did their heirs before them in Britain and the "Declaration of Rights" they invoked, from the teachings of Sir William blackstone.

no poo

And actually we have a lot of historical documents from that time period.

There are a few people that mention Christians in early rights, big deal. And there are about 3 ( pretty sure that number is right) that mention Jesus. They do not know him or go in much detail. Josephus' writings about Christ were forged.

no insult to intelligence intended, it's a common mistake and i wanted to make sure i covered that :cheers2:

would you then name three comparable historical figures and quote your differing sources on the authenticity of said figure?

the only part of josephus' writings in dispute are his claims to jesus' divinity. no one has ever disputed his actual account of jesus' trial and crucifiction - only his interpretation of them.
