the way I see "best athlete" is a player being great at several things. that's why people always said Peppers was one of the best, if not THE best athlete in the NFL because of how fast, strong, and basically physically gifted he was.

Bush is fast no doubt, but there are players that are just a few steps slower, but about twice as strong(such as Steve Smith..) That should make them a better athlete than Bush.

If anyone wants to signify that strength, speed, and god given talent makes a person the "BEST ATHLETE" then Jonathan Stewart wins that title hands down. I think Pat chose reggie to make the Saints fans feel that he is actually worth the wasted 2nd pick of the draft a few years back. Or he just chose reggie cuz his team won a ring. There are plenty of athletes in the NFC South that surpasses Reggie in just about every aspect but the speed category, and Id say at least 4-5 of those players are on the panthers, 3 play for the falcons (turner, gonzales, R. White) and 1-2 maybe on the Bucs (Barrett Rudd and Derrick Ward if he can ever get a chance to shine and prove himself, Oh wait he did in '08 against us fighting for the no.1 seed [Reggie has never had a game close to that]) So everyone needs to get off of Reggie's high horse and realize that he is a huge bust, unless he can prove himself sometime soon in which I doubt he'd do. (Same with Jarrett)

Jonathan Stewart IMO.

I agree 100%! JStew has that PERFECT blend of raw speed and tremendous strength that makes him damn near immortal every time he steps on the field. He is the superior athlete when compared to Bush and by far the better RB. I didn't see Reggie Bush stiff arming the poo outta the likes of Ronde Barber as rookie. As I recall Reggie averaged about 3 yds a carry his rookie season and took a lick from Sheldon Brown that damn near killed him...

Smith IS the best athlete in the NFC South. But not sometimes, EVERY time he touches the ball he has the ability to score. How many of us sit back and take a deep breath when the ball is thrown his way. Because of his pure athletic ability to make other miss him, his ungodly speed, his unmatched desire and that famous chip on his should WE EXPECT him to score.

Reggie Bush has the ability to do this but we don't expect it like we do with Smitty.
