This is who you said would come here for that price. No poo a guy like Wonnum will play for the Panthers for pennies, as that's his market price.

Interesting that Wonnum was doubled more than Burns.

Yeah, because he's not an every down player. From what I've read, he mainly plays passing downs. He's more of a specialist than anything at this point in his career.

I don't know why I'm arguing. This isn't like some shocking revelation. There's a reason the league wasn't in a bidding war for Wonnum and why he signed to the worst team in the NFL for a bargain contract.

There's also a reason why Brian Burns received pick compensation and a large contract.

I'll wait until the regular season for your eyes to open.

Yep! Leaving you in the dust!

Keep this same energy when we sign another pass rusher.

We can sign as many bottom of the barrel guys as you want. That's what I predicted we would do and we're doing it.

I said the Panthers are going to scrape the bottom of the barrel for EDGE players that other teams aren't signing. That's what we're doing.

Here, I'll post this again, not that I expect you to read it, again.

Vikings UFA profile: OLB D.J. Wonnum - Sports Illustrated Minnesota Vikings News, Analysis and More

The reality is that Wonnum is best suited as a team's third edge rusher, not an every-down starter. He has 23 sacks in four seasons, but many of them — especially prior to 2023 — came on plays where he was unblocked or was cleaning up a scrambling quarterback thanks to good coverage on the back end. Wonnum's PFF grade was a career-best 62.3 this season (60 is average) after three years in the 50s, and his pass rush win rates have never been particularly impressive.

Wonnum is a younger stopgap for a few years and maybe he blossoms under Evero kind of signing. Whom I assume had a good level of input. I very much doubt many people are under any illusions he's a direct Burns replacement.

Wasn’t this debate about replacing one pass rusher’s production (Burns) with Two guys. For far less money!?!?

yes it was! And Btw we covered that production with ONE guy.

don’t try and spin it. The whole debate was HERE in this very thread!

No, we're not debating. You guys are trying to snipe me with dumb gotchas that don't add up to much.

I said we would sign multiple bottom of the barrel EDGE players to make up for losing Brian Burns and from that we would have a much poorer pass-rush next season, most likely.

You stated we could sign a 10 sack guy, named several, and that it wouldn't be difficult.

Quote

Barret, Clowney, Lawson, Hunter, Floyd, Smith

The only person on this list that's possible is Clowney and it's because he's had an up and down career where every other season he's barely produced. He's a good player that's probably looking for a multi-year contract, but at the risk to the team that signs him as he could have another down season.

Please stop wasting my time with your notifications.

Good god you're a drama queen... "wait until the regular season to open your eyes". Please.

Burns' pass rush double-team rate was 14%, exactly what's on the chart even though that's only through Week 13, and since that's very clearly measuring pass rushing I can't even tell what you're trying to insinuate - they won't include run plays in that calculation. Wonnum was double on a higher percentage of passing plays than Burns... it is what it is.

Burns is not worth $30MM and needed to be somewhere else at that price, full stop. The defense might suffer a bit this year because of it but the team wasn't winning jack crap anyway. His overpriced contract isn't on the books and that's what needed to happen, as we're already seeing that money spread out across multiple positions. It will be up to improved drafting to continue the restock, as that is really what has left to cupboard bare.

Yeah, whatever you have to tell yourself, however you have to make the numbers work in your mind, to equate Brian Burns with DJ Wonnum.
