And that is why you don't mess with 18 wheelers

i don't know about trying to kill yourself to merge in front of a semi, but i do try to avoid getting stuck behind them due to reduced visibility and damage to your vehicle from the rocks and debris they can churn up into your windshield/front end.

I swear most people will sacrifice their first born in order to get in front of a large vehicle.

ahhh

It has a lot to do with the suspensions. They are designed to handle hauling a large payload. The suspensions tend to "hop" on empty commercial vehicles. This bounce increases breaking distances. It also makes driving one empty miserable

18 wheelers stop quicker when loaded.

To quote my bro, an otr driver for 20 years, "that's bullshit".

If you slam on breaks and you're empty, you can jack knife and you will bunny hop. My bro said it's takes about a 1/4 mile to come to a complete stop while loaded. I didn't ask what speed he was going. Empty he can stop between 500 1100 ft depending on road conditions.

I also have another trucker on speeddial for a second opinion if needed.
