Ian Thomas getting Restructure

Ian Thomas would actually be a very solid TE if he knew how to catch, get open, block, run after catch, and if 5'10/185 pound cornerbacks didn't exist.

Dang, I could be a really good NFL TE too….if….

W. T. F.  Time to cut the bum, he sucks at EVERYTHING, even his supposed strength of blocking.

How does this guy survive every year?  He is truly the worst TE we may have ever had. This alone makes me have NO confidence in the new regime.

Restructure??? How does he still have a spot?

Sullivan intrigues me in the passing game and Tremble just needs more targets imo.

I thought we were going all in on "the dawgs"... Morgan must have talking to talk.

Ian Thomas might be one of the softest TE's I ever remember seeing. Literally rare that he gets a first down when he has to run through contact....I wouldn't even put money on him vs a place kicker on a one on one drill.

Maybe I'm exaggerating since they view him as such a great blocker.

Even from a mental standpoint, he doesn't strike me as the "hate to lose" type of player. But hopefully I'm wrong. I only get to see a portion of the picture. Fact still remains...we need less CJ Henderson's and more Adam Thielen's/Derrick Brown's..attitude wise.

Please don’t stop. Seeing you try to explain and understand the salary cap is hilarious. IMG_0124.gif.43932910024ffd615474ebd125b4a3d0.gif

He has no clue. What the heck does this mean?

If you release him you lose more money and have to replace him and pay his replacement. I don't think you understand the finances here. We saved money and kept him without pushing anything down the road from what I have read.

This to me says he doesn’t get it. People don't seem to get the simplest thing that we save his salary in cap space and would have saved more last year. They don’t see restructuring bonuses and act like it doesn’t matter to keep kicking the can. A day round rookie TE would be better and cheaper.

The saving money on a poo player because his salary is less than the dead cap is hilarious. It’s like the “new” money versus already sunk money doesn’t get through. Somehow they think paying for Thomas to not be on the team in 2025/2026 (I’m sure we’ll use void years, otherwise it’s all 2024 cap hit in his last year of his contract) is a good thing because we save cap space in 2024. That’s how we’ve had to waste money on poo FAs the past few years because we couldn’t afford the really good players.

He isn't worth keeping so any cap cleared by dumping him was the win. URFAs would have more upside than Thomas at this point.

You save money keeping him not releasing him and he is gone after this year so no you are wrong my friend.

That isnt true at all. If his remaining dead cap is almost 4 million and his cap hit has been reduced to a little over 4 million he costs very little to retain and S long as he is gone after this year Morgan did a good job  getting something for very little.

Last year is irrelevant. It is 2024. Why do you save money keeping him? His dead cap hit is right at 3.8 million. His cap hit now appears to be right at 4.5. But to replace him at the rookie minimum it is 750,000 so replacing him with someone with any vet experience will cost as much or more than replacing him.

So no it wasn't wrong to keep him if Canales has use for him in his offense.

It's not saving money keeping a player below backup level.

He isn't good at anything. Morgan is just more of the same.

Obviously Canales thinks differently. Plus with Hurst gone  we have to find a number 1 tight end already so it was a low risk low reward move. I am sure we will bring in a draft pick and maybe a vet on the cheap.

    • Yeah, this is the least talented defense in franchise history. Hard to beat him up that badly.
    • Some very rosy takes for a backup RB in his first NFL game versus an elite rushing defense.  I damn sure hope that you guys are right.
