NFL Tradewinds & FA News

the Giants sitting at #6 are in really good position to grab a QB this year when the market is better than it will be in 2025, I would speculate.  Would they take McCarthy at #6?  Maybe not as risky as it was when Gettlemen took Jones early.  I think that would mess up the Vikings' draft.  I am really ready to get free agency behind us so we can see through this muddy water.

We can't forget about Atlanta.  Just because all the talking heads are saying Cousins' is landing there, it is just speculation to this point.  If they don't get a FA QB, you had better bet they are drafting one.  They ain't rolling with that QB room again this season without an upgrade, real or perceived.

That's a possible destination for Wilson.  Jimmy G still has some years on his contract so it would be as a backup, initially, if Fields went to the Raiders.  I don't think Fields can beat out a healthy Jimmy G. Wilson supposedly got a call from the Giants.  I don't see that happening though as Jones' contract is too steep right now to ditch and Wilson isn't signing as a backup.  Maybe Fields ends up there as a back up for a season and then the main guy if they cut Jones in 2025.

Jimmy G got benched halfway thru last season. He will be released this week. Not in Raiders plans.

Without Canales will he be as good?  Stay tuned, but Baker is known  for having a good year once in a while--streaky.

His play was always streaky, even last year where it was just better than his normal. He can get a team into the playoffs if they run heavy where he will have some good games and some dud games. At this point it looks like he has mellowed his attitude after the stuff he has been through which is great for him. But he isn't the answer if you are talking more than a playoff birth.

Going away from Canales is just a question of them following that mold, run first and heavy, or putting more on Baker? The first works and even Wilks did that before Canales with him and Darnold. I suspect the second one will always end in failure for Baker. Canales is unquestionably a good QB coach but Baker was also older and ready to listen. If he doesn't put his head up his own butt again he should have a solid rest of his career...if he keeps that run game going.

Bucs had the worst run game in the league last year. I know that because I remember being happy when we hired Canales but having some real concern about that

Fields to Raiders seem like his most likely destination. I think Pierce wants a mobile QB.

I keep wondering what the Vikings are going to do if they lose Cousins....They pick 11th.   I have not been reading the rumors, but it is interesting to see how the dominoes will fall--start seeing it tomorrow.

Tannehill is about as close to being done as you can get. He's probably going to be a poor man's Dalton after next season. Aging vet backup QB with some still in the tank.

Dang, you think? Honestly I didn't watch him last year, but I thought his age and traits would still hang around a couple more years.

I mean he is gonna be 36 next season. It's basically the end. We all think these guys are gonna be Tom Brady but that isn't the norm. He is in his last 2-4 years in the NFL, most likely.

Not to mention his production(and ability to stay healthy) has gotten worse the past couple of years.

It wasn't a surprise to see him benched in Tenn. It was just time to move on from a guy who is on the backside of his career.

Also, his career ceiling was never that high. We aren't talking about a guy who was even able to consistently be in the top 20 starting QB discussion in his career.

They kept running even if it didn't work. When they stopped running their O stalled. Running takes the burden of Baker and the OC can choose where to put him in a good position. They were 32 in yards but 23 in attempts.

Look it's not like they would have gone to the playoffs if they were not in the NFCS so it's not like any of it was stellar.

Christian Wilkins is a guy who will make a big impact for his next team. Miami is in cap hell so there was no re-signing for him there.

Houston has been mentioned but if they land Armstead instead, Wilkins is a dude to watch. Will be one of the more coveted FAs

    • Watching Rams/Eagles. Celebrating the St Louis Rams team that won the SB (Warner, Holt, etc..) while playing in Los Angeles seems wrong.  If I were in Los Angeles, no way I would attend a Rams game.  Probably wouldn't attend a Chargers game either.  Becoming a fan of a team that likes to move around just seems like a waste of energy as a fan.
    • The only responses I am getting after providing statistics to put opinions in perspective seem to be from people who get angry and attack stats and people whose opinions differ from their own.  Have people on the Huddle ever overreacted, exaggerated, been wrong about players before?  Sure they have, so an alternative opinion with statistical support should not cause you to attack me or my views.  I am sorry your public schools failed you.  But your reactions are very revealing--you are stuck in Piaget's concrete operational stage--learn logic, how to debate a topic, and learn the difference between facts and emotional opinions.  When I paralleled Cam's stats with Jones' to point out how remarkably similar their careers have been to this point, It blew some 40 watt minds.  I think Jones, in a better situation, could be good--that should not upset you--
    • penalties and poor hands is what cost us in the RZ Bryce missing "high" in the back of the end zone is not an issue, you're taught as a QB to throw high in the back of end zone were only the receiver can catch or no one The duo of Ian Thomas and Tommy tremble can both go at the end of the season, both been here for multiple seasons and they've barely developed
