Grade the Trades

LB stepped in on April 29th, 2008. We're about a month away now from his two year anniversary. The B-Cats aren't playing tonight so I thought it might be a decent time to grade his trades so far.

LB made his first move on December 10, 2008. Trading with the Suns, giving away Jason Richardson, Jared Dudley and a second round draft pick for Boris Diaw, Raja Bell, and Sean Singletary.

The announcers for the Suns game last night brought up how well this trade has worked out for the Suns as Dudley hit some late baskets to seal the game. We did give up some value with Richardson being an elite talent and Dudley's a grinder, he gives it his all every day, is a great locker room influence... and he's got some skills.

Raja was old and often injured; Sean Singletary was demoted to the D-League, and Boris has lagged on effort and comes into many games looking like the most out-of-shape player on the court. He's stepped his game up as of late. He's a talented big man who can put the ball in the basket and is an excellent passer; a very valuable asset to the team when motivated.

I would say the Suns probably got a little better out of this deal; especially if we would have just held onto Raja and Sean instead of subsequently trading them. But I think both teams benefited from the trade. Good Job Steve Kerr! I give the Bobcats a B cuz it worked out but nothing earth shattering.

February 7th, 2009 B-Cats trade Adam Morrison for Vladmir Radmanovic. Boring trade, neither players made much of an impact... but at least Vlad could break our lineup, and I believe started for us for awhile. Bobcats get another B!

Emeka Okafor was traded to the New Orleans Hornets for Center Tyson Chandler on July 28th of last year. I can somewhat understand that Larry wanted to change the face of the franchise and the best way to do that is to get rid of the current face of the franchise who was Emeka Okafor. But he couldn't assume he was going to bet better production out of Tyson Chandler. Oft injured, oft uninspired Chandler has a player option where he will get $12 mil. from MJ next year... he'd be an idiot not to take it. So my question is what are we getting out of this trade. Better talent? No. Cap Relief? Hell no. So what? LB you get a C on this report card. Don't tell your mom.

Luckily LB redeems himself on his next move. This past November Brown traded Raja Bell and Vladmir Radmanovic for stud Stephen Jackson and Acie Law. I give LB an A+ on this one. Raja has yet to see any playing time with the Warriors I believe and can't say Ive seen Vlad in the games either. We basically got a better version of Jason Richardson who we lost in the Suns trade.

And now for the most recent one. Tyrus Thomas was acquired from the Bulls for Flip Murray and Acie Law on February 18th, 2010. I for one have always been a fan of the way Tyrus plays basketball and would love to see him stay in Charlotte. Flip Murray was talented but definitely not worth the same as Tyrus Thomas. Acie Law's just a footnote in this trade. I give LB an A-/B+ because this trade threw off our rhythm for awhile, but hopefully the pick up of Larry Hughes can offset our loss of Flip.

The Vlad and Adam trade with the Lakers is a F-. We gave up Shannon Brown as well in that trade. We could really use him backing up Jax right now. He came in and did a great job when Kobe was hurt.

If we cancel that trade and keep AMO and S Brown then we cant package Vlad with Bell for SJax. Now its possible that we could of found another player the Warriors would have taken in that deal. I don't think you can grade it an F- and then say you want Brown to back up SJax who was only brought in bc we had Vlad to trade.

The Shannon Brown trade only hurts because of what SB has turned into. He wasn't a dynamic, yet wildly inconsistent player with the Bobcats. He fumbled his last game with the Bobcats away and then LB shipped his ass out. That is how LB operates.

On the Bell/Diaw/Singletary for JRich and JDud trade, I would make that trade again over and over. This team wasn't going to win more than 35 games with JRich being our go to guy, and he fell off a cliff mentally shortly after the trade.

The TT for Flip and a first trade wasn't my favorite, but TT has played better than expected and they have somewhat replaced Flip with DJ's improved play and the signing of Larry Hughes.

When you look at all the trades we did in the end we traded Jason Richardson, Jared Dudley, Adam Morrison, Shannon Brown, Flip Murray and a 2nd rnder for Boris Diaw, Stephen Jackson and Tyrus Thomas. Of course I left off Raja Bell and Vlad bc they were in the end just pieces to make another trade. To grade these moves I would give it a B+ we really took just 1 starter in Richardson and the rest are bench players and turned it into at least 2 starters and 1 bench player.

The Okafor for Chandler trade I would grade at a C, both have had injury issues this season but Chandler just dosen't seem to have the ability to dominate the boards like Okafor did.

A overlooked trade at the deadline is the 2nd rnder for Ratliff, this has been a great trade so far. I know its just a quick short term fix but he has filled in and played great D for us and to my suprise still has some game on the offensive side too.

Ok fine every trade is a A+++++++++++++++ because i like the team we have.

I agree with this because of what the end result has been. Player for Player we may not get the best end of all our trades but LB just knows what pieces he's missing and who to give up to get it.

There was nothing given up in this trade. The 2nd rounder for Ratliff is contingent upon the Bobs making the NBA finals this year. If that doesn't happen, the Bobs don't owe the 2nd rounder.
