I'm pretty sure interactions with fans have nothing to do with being a Captain of the football team. And Smitty is a great leader for the younger players, there's no questioning that. Lucas was a c*ck, anyway.

Smith's best asset is his worst enemy; his passion. This, combined with his skill, makes him a leader by example, regardless of his leadership skills.

Also, I'm not trying to make "passion" sound like some abstract godly given gift. It's pretty evident that Smith gets "riled up" pretty easily (in an angry or "happy" way). I call that passion, and you can call it whatever you want, but that's what I'm referring to.

When you're a captain, you're supposed to set an example for other players (especially the younger ones) on how to conduct yourself on and off the field. Smith fails at conducting himself off the field in the proper manner. Younger players can see how he has acted off the field in recent past and right now in the present and think that sort of behavior is acceptable. Therefore that behavior spreads through the team like wild fire.

Don't the players vote on the captains not the coaches? So it might be who the players see as the leaders i practice and camp. Or who is the most popular.

I agree. He supposely would've been a captain & not Moose if he didn't punch Lucas. But still, I hope Smitty is a captain again. He may be a hothead, but that help fuel his fiery intensity & "never quit" attitude whenever he is on the field. That what make him one of the best WR in the NFL.
