As others have mentioned, Tyler was actually picked to play in a 4-3 base defence, then the coaching change happens and they decide to switch to the 3-4. From what I have read, most Chiefs fans liked his production in his rookie year.

He still played a season under that 4-3..before they switched

Tyler gets a bit of a pass imo. He had some positional issues when he came into the league in switching from a 4-3 to a 3-4 which could have impacted progress (see thomas davis if you are looking to confuse a young player with upside). That being said I think he deserves a fair shot especially given his price tag and the fact we don't have a dominant dt at the moment.

I also went to state so there may be a bias...
