The difference would be that currently the protection provided for the defenseless receiver ends when the receiver has completed the catch, meaning possession of the ball with two feet on the ground

This would eliminate hits like the one Chris Harris delivered on that poor Jacksonville Jaguar a few years ago... I dont agree with this at all. They're also talking about moving Linemen from a 3 point to a 4 point stance in order to reduce the cumulitive affect that those head shots produce...

psh, nice argument there by the article, "when the new rules for hitting the quarterback were implemented, the NFL prospered and was more exciting" (something along those lines) is freaking retarded. 10 qbs threw for 4000 yards and a dozen threw for 25 tds.... uhhh... thats only more exciting to people who masturbate to highlight reels all day. theres something called balance in football, and its being obliterated. i mean why don't we just start playing backyard football or arena football, where the scores are always 50/60+. way more exciting right bro. why dont we just get rid of offensive lines, and have a guy count out 5 mississippi till he can run in and two hand touch the quarterback.

and yes, players are bigger and faster nowadays, but look at how often career ending injuries occur compared to the old days. this is such a joke

heres the rest of that quote the OP left out..

"We would propose language that would say that if a receiver has completed the catch and has not had time to protect himself, a defensive player is prohibited from launching into him in a way that causes the defensive player's helmet, face mask, shoulder or forearm to forcibly strike the receiver's head."

thought that was already a rule...

im so sick of these player safety rules now, I was watching an older niner/cowboy game on NFL netwrok the other day and it's like they didn't even exist. It really does seem like it will be flag football soon, and personally I think it's taking away from the sport

I'm fine with bigger penalties for helmet to helmet hits, but this is kind of a joke..

the HILARIOUS(and hypocritical) part of this is Goodell is trying to put this rule in to prevent injuries, yet wants to extend the NFL regular season a couple games which would result in a lot more injuries than these.

Goodell is the worst NFL commish of all time.

I find it funny that people whine and cry about the added rules while seemingly not caring one ounce for the players and their families with what have been deemed to be be too serious hits. It's as if you view them as toys for your own amusement. Watch the NFL, then flip over to MMA to satisfy your need for brutalization. The NFL adds these rules for a reason.

That said, I'm going to UFC 114 in Vegas in May. Rashad versus Rampage!

Now...I'll wait while dozens of you quote this, argue in favor of the old NFL days, and insult me.

No this is just becoming complete BS the Godell is doing this now adays, The nfl was fine until he came along. Now he is trying to turn the nfl into a pu$$y league now. Ha the guys get paid millons every year. If they get hurt and half to retire. At least they are setup for life so long as the players don't spend all in one place. Roger is screwing the fans who watch the game. Some one needs to fire him.

Blah blah blah. These guys get paid millions of dollars a year and they got great health coverage. Most NFL fans work hard for a few bucks an hour just buy tickets just to see them play football and not a pu$$y contest. I'm for protecting players from head injuries and all. But the NFL is taking way to far and turnnign the NFL into a Pu$$y league. The more rules they change the more NFL loses fans. The more fans they loss the more money they loss. Injuries are of the game. It's just a like a factory worker going to work in a factory. The factory has rules to keep workers safe. But workers getting hurt is still a big risk no matter how many rules there are. These guys are rich. Getting injuried are retiring is not going to hurt their wallets any less.

i was kind of hoping they'd wear these...A-Man-in-a-Chicken-Suit.jpg

but hey, what do i know? Goodell can die for all i care. and i mean that too. no regrets on that statement. the NFL has lost all meaning to the word "football." it's like telling hockey players they can't do body checks anymore. it's a contact sport. people are going to get hurt regardless. yeah, protect the head, but what good is a head when the rest of the body is paralyzed? i mean come on...

Just a bunch of pussies, is all I can say. Now when I played football, back in the leather helmet days, we use to have brass knuckles on our hands to aid in, shall we say, getting to the qb. We can't trip anybody, we can't smack anybody, we can't launch ourselves into anybody, we can't even stand over someone and celebrate and now we can't pop the receiver while he is in the air. Just childs play now. We use to drink a bottle of draino before the game, just to sweeten our farts when we piled on. It's just not fun anymore, it's just not.
