This team will be ruthlessly used to up FA's prices with other teams this year...if their agents are smart.

Why would you overpay someone who doesn't want to win? And yes that is what coming here would mean. It's lose-lose on the top tier guys. They should be targeting guys who need to prove themselves or need playing time or both. The top shelf guys are a waste of time.

Again, players do not care about winning when it comes to free agency. they want guaranteed money and comfort. Evans could have gone to the Chiefs if he really wanted to win,  but guess what, he just wanted to stay in Tampa and get the bag

one thing nice about the 2343294 former athlete podcasts that are all over the place.  They talk about stuff.  The would you have rather have a ring or get paid X.  Almost all these dudes are taking the cash.

I mean, unless you are legitimately chasing all time positioning in books of NFL history.....most are just taking the biggest check.

Did you not read about the part of using the Panthers to get a better deal with other teams? They can still get paid and not be on a 2 win team.

Clearly I was joking, but you may need some math help.  3 seasons ago was 2021.....he won the MVP....only 2 seasons have happened since was back to back MVP.

2021 was three seasons ago....

No Evans. No Higgins.

What's the backup plan?

It was always going to be draft for us. It might now be what some of us want but it's the only path due to decisions that have already been made.

    • You keep mentioning the impact on the salary cap, but that's literally not the point with all these 2nd Rounders, it's all about precedent and it being a slippery slope that would lead to more fully guaranteed contracts for veterans. That's what the teams are making sure this doesn't get to, because yes, you're right, the guarantees for a 2nd rounder won't have significant cap implications if the player doesn't work out.  But you give that fully guaranteed 3-4 year contract to a FA who then shits the bed in year 1 and never regains the form that got them the contract, then yes, it's going to screw up your cap management and won't be a rounding error. And you can say it's a big leap to go from guaranteeing a 2nd round pick's contract to a big FA signing, but it's really not.  Once teams start giving them out, it's only going to keep growing and be insisted upon by agents in other situations and once the ball starts rolling down the hill, it's going to be impossible to stop it's momentum. Also, the only reason a 2nd rounder's contract would be a rounding error, is explicitly because contracts aren't guaranteed and teams can finagle the cap hits with various tactics.  Once contracts become more and more guaranteed, that won't be as easy to do, if even possible at all, and those individual rounding errors become serious problems in totality.
    • Yep!  Jake wanted to stay. It’s been reported a lot that he did. Tulsky waited too long to give him that contract.
    • He's still unsigned, due to injury I think. He should be able to play this year, but I think teams are just waiting for more clarity before signing him.
