Uh because "sweepstakes" machines are currently legal in all of NC. They have these machines set up everywhere and stick a sweepstakes sticker on it. There's tons of internet poker cafes opening in Charlotte and all of NC.

You go into these places and buy a phone card and enter the info on the computer and your credit comes up..you can cash out whenever you want.

Burke County Narcotics Task Force Lt. Alex Cobb said the businesses try to skirt the state's gambling and video-gaming laws.

General Statute 14-301 prohibits "any slot machine or device where the user may become entitled to receive any money, credit, allowance or anything of value."

And G.S. 14-306.1A says, in part, "A video gaming machine is a video machine which requires deposit of any coin or token, or use of any credit card, debit card, or any other method that requires payment to activate play of any of the games listed in this subsection."

Internet sweepstakes games make for one complicated subject with numerous conflicting voices.

Catawba County's sheriff says the cash payouts the businesses offer are illegal.

Lawmakers say they're trying to close a legal loophole that allows the sweepstakes games.

Judges in Wake and Guilford counties issued orders restricting law enforcement from taking any action against the sweepstakes businesses. But Catawba County Sheriff David Huffman said he believes t*hose orders apply only in the counties where they were issued.

Burke Sheriff John McDevitt used the same reasoning last week when his deputies, along with police in Morganton, Valdese and Drexel, shut down more than 50 Internet sweepstakes parlors.

I'm not even from Charlotte, but if I did live anywhere around there, I'd be in the Epicenter for March Madness. That's where I go to hang whenever I'm in town for a Panthers game, and it's always a great time. I even enjoy watching stuff at Buffalo Wild Wings. Good food, big TVs, and you've got a bowling alley downstairs...for when you just don't want the night to end!
