How much of Hollywood is actually Hollywood?

I for one think its really dumb. What ever happened to artistry with the camera and using authentic locations for shows.

Celebrity happened. Because it's way to expensive to send a pampered actress and her chihuahua from LA to New York in a Gulf Stream jet for one shot of her walking in Time Square.

Watching Justified last night, and I noticed the Mountains were not too big. So they might have filmed on location, at least for the exterior shots. Takes place in Kentucky. Unlike the Andy Griffith show, I think that show was shot in S.Korea, the mountains were the same ones in M*A*S*H*.

I have to say that although I am a stuck in the mud fan of old school effects, the idea of this tech being made available to lower budget TV shows is not necessarily a bad idea. The shots are used for establishing a location or a feel and are not affected by bad weather, permits, etc. which allows for more time to work on other more important elements of the show. It can be misused, but so can too much time on location, since some producers will demand useless shots be added just to show that the money was spent to be somewhere.
