My opinion of panthers ownership is plummeting by the hour

Blank blew his wad on a corner who hasn't been good against the pass since his rookie year.

Jay Glazer is a beat reporter and doesn't own a team.

how did they make money by releasing jake delhomme and tendering moore and davis?

like he's done 7 of the past 10 years.

really, because i look at a veteran like hoover and see a player breaking down that the panthers didn't need to succeed last year. I see Kemoeatu not healing from his achilles injury, probably never playing again, and who was never that good in the first place. I see Brayton and Lewis wanting or getting paid FAR more than they're worth. I see defensive line player with incredibly low ceilings that were only successful on a line with peppers.

peppers was out of the panthers' hands. Lucas was cut last year.

none of those other guys are big losses.

you want the panthers to spend money on whom exactly? which one of those players were worth spending money on? when have the panthers been very good at acquiring high priced free agents? why are you still posting?

Ur an idiot, obliterated my argument, sure.. You didnt even refute what i said.

1. We are worse off without peppers (anyone who denies this need to get checked)

2. We are making veteran cuts because of money(you admitted this for brayton and Lewis, as for maake he must be healthy enough for the redskins)

3. We need to reinvest this money in to the team, especially since we dont have a 1st rounder (no big name FA? have you heard of stephen davis?)

So we should have seriously over paid for Peppers for the times he shows up? Every FA coming off an injury and going to a new team is "healthy enough", and the Redskins have a rich history of making amazing free agency moves. What FA is out there WORTH THE MONEY WE WOULD HAVE TO PAY THEM?

well no poo sherlock but it's not like the front office threw him out the door. They went well beyond what anyone would consider reasonable in their attempts to retain him and in the end he just didn't want to be here.

that's no fault of theirs.

financial concerns factor into every single player on every single successful team in the league. When your contract exceeds how you can perform, you are let go. This is a simple basic concept and your inability to understand it is indicative of a student at a school that's basically a white south carolina state university.

kemoeatu's contract is structured so that if he doesn't play, he doesn't get paid, and even then you seem to be holding the redskins up as an example of spending smartly.

3. We need to reinvest this money in to the team, especially since we dont have a 1st rounder

and who's to say the panthers won't?

this thread is made every single f**king year when the panthers don't go out and sign like spergon wynn to a record setting contract and every year the panthers wait for the first round of TC cuts and every year they smartly add pieces and assemble a top ten defense and every single year white noise poo f**kers like you forget about it the second the season ends.

that's what lewis and brayton were, remember? former busts taken off the scrap heap.

(no big name FA? have you heard of stephen davis?)

stephen davis was coming off an injury shortened season and was at the end of his career. the panthers rolled the dice on him and came up a pair. he then quickly disintegrated on the field in front of our eyes.

just because the gamble paid huge dividends do not grant you license to grossly inflate the signings significance.

I honestly don't think we could have a much better owner, in all seriousness. He's made mistakes, but he's learned from all of them.

We never attack big free agents, and when we have, we've mostly been unsuccessful. If anything, the release of so many veterans at one time kind of says to me "JR thinks there's going to be a lockout".

But it's also a good time to trim the fat, since a cap penalty will probably mean nothing this year.

Among the eight new starters we'll have:

  • Peppers is the only position where it's pretty certain we won't be as good.
  • Lewis is the only position where it's not certain we'll be as good or better.

Depth will be a concern at Wide Receiver (it was last year too), Defensive End (instead of DT), and LB. Last year it was a concern on the Offensive Line, and look at how that worked out.

Richardson wants to win, so does Fox, so does Hurney. No one's mailing in the season, and neither are they putting all their eggs in a 20 million dollar basket. The Panthers will win more than the Bears, and they'll be in the playoffs.

Just relax, ok?

I am very confused, where is all the money being saved from these cuts going, not to mention we wont have to pay a first round pick this year? I assume in the Richardson's pockets. Not sure if he is preparing for the 2011 lockout, is morally against paying players in an uncapped year, or is just cheap..but we're looking like the NFL version of the Marlins right now, except we sell out every game and have a revenue sharing system.

Charlotte has supported the Panthers monetarily how about the Panthers showing the fans a little support, rather than trying to save a buck.

Dumping salaries, raising ticket prices, falling asleep during free agency..not the way to do it, just ask bob Johnson

State of the Panthers

As of this writing, Carolina had not made any significant additions in the free-agent market. And the Panthers don't have a first-round pick in the upcoming draft. So, what is going on with the Panthers? That's a good question. Obviously they are cutting costs. Not only did they let Julius Peppers leave without receiving compensation, but they also decided to part ways with other, lesser-impact players.

It seems pretty apparent that the Panthers are not looking to win immediately, which then makes you wonder about John Fox's long-term status with the club. To me, the Panthers still have a long list of positions that need addressing. With the exception of Steve Smith, the pass-catchers might be the worst in the league. That isn't a great way to break in a new -- but rather promising -- young quarterback in Matt Moore.

Also, the defensive line needs a real influx of talent, particularly at defensive tackle. But where is this help going to come from? The team will be younger, but missing the first-round pick in this draft really hits home. Is it time to consider shopping DeAngelo Williams? Where is the leadership going to come from? It could be a very long year for Carolina.
