Has anyone heard of Marshall visiting any other teams? I was kinda hoping a team with a good 2nd round pick (33rd-40th overall) might want him. I know he's a good #2, but I think the talent dropoff from Gamble to him is MUCH greater than from him to Munnerlyn.

Maybe we could continue our draft day trend and trade next years 1st and our 2nd to get back into this years first? Only if we had another 2 of course.

I think what the Panthers are trying to show Marshall, is that he is not worth as much as he thinks. When no other team in the NFL is willing to give up a 2nd round pick for him, that will help the Panthers negotiate a long-term deal with him next season.

Well I think that he is worth a 2nd round pick(you aren't going to find a corner as good as him in the 2nd unless you're very lucky.) I agree about the he is not worth as much as he thinks though. Letting him talk to other teams will (hopefully) bring him down a notch, and help him realize he isn't worth top corner money.

Exactly.

And in case anyone thinks Captain can be the #2 CB on this team, go watch some game tape. This team needs Marshall back next year or they need to spend that 2nd round pick they get in RFA for him on another CB.

I share your opinion, but I dont know how this got posted n the first place because I do not think we could lose another starter and have good chemistry on the team next year being that we have done nothing is free agency but sign a couple of bums instead of going after proven veterans its looking like we are targeting the draft to help build r team. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a big name player traded before thedraft for multiple mid-late draft picks

The ONLY person we could trade that would not signifigantly weaken the team would be D-will or Stewart. It makes sense in a very cold, brutal way. The truth is we could trade one of those guys and have a cheap FA or draft pick spell them with simmilar results.

I wouldn't do it though. Double Trouble FTW.

In the past, restricted free agents usually do not get a lot of interest until the last couple of weeks before they have to be signed to an offer sheet, April 15th this year. Most teams use March to go through the unrestricted agents first.

I wouldn't want to see it because we would have to use that pick or another on a CB so we really aren't gaining anything except a young proven corner. I hope he stays and we draft well...last years class was decent but it will take a great draft to recover from the departures.

I agree Munnerlyn is a steal but that's because he's a 7th. He's not a starter at least for now. No way would we be ok there. Everybody loves him because he's played far beyond expectations. Trading away your accomplished starter to be replaced with a 2nd year guy is risky buisness.

A lot of people underestimate Marshall, but it's easy to understand why. He's on the field so much in so many capacities that he gets burned here and there. But the man plays RCB, nickel, and covers kicks and punts in pretty much every game. He's closing in on the team's leading ST tacklers, defends passes pretty well, and is excellent defending the run.

No way is a 2nd round pick worth that much production, unless you get a poisoned deal to match, or a top of the round pick.

Then again, is he worth top cornerback money? No, not yet at least.

      Oh he would absolutely flourish. It’s the panthers way. It’s no different with coaches. Sometimes they reach their expiration date, go somewhere else, and find new success.  Similarly to Burns, how long to wait for the light to finally turn on?  Market forces will demand a salary that the panthers can not responsibly match. Sliding him to guard will fit his skill set better, but he has played LT for 3 years. He will receive offers from other teams wanting to pay him LT money.  At guard, he won’t start with what they have paid Hunt and Lewis. Center then?? Dunno. Maybe? He will become a backup by default once they draft their stud LT. I doubt Dan just stands pat. That’s not his MO.  So where does this put him? Can you match what other teams will offer for a backup LT/guard? Do you dish out franchise LT $ on a guy who still needs significant improvement in pass protection. This team will be DOA in the playoffs with the very first team who has a formidable speed rusher. What if he has hit his ceiling in pass protection already and they sign him long term? It’s a big gamble either way.

      I didn't say I would have done it. I was just saying that I can see why some in the FO considered it. Everything was done to give Bryce weapons. Solidify the interior line thru FA. Get XL at WR in round 1 and then get the most talented RB in round 2. Take a TE in round 4, etc They were probably "assuming" he'd make a complete recovery during the 2024 season. I'm a skeptical person. I wouldn't have assumed he'd be ok in 2024. I personally would have taken another position in the 2nd for that very reason. But, if I were "influenced" to take him I would've argued to keep him off the field, especially seeing how things were going for us record wise. Conventional Wisdom says most backs don't get back to normal until two years after the ACL surgery. He was injured in Fall 2023. Having him suit up in 2025 would have been almost 2 years since the original injury. You have him for 3 year on low contract. If he balls out, you resign him for a couple of more years b/c he'd only have 3 years of tread on the tires. If he's ok but not great you let him walk.
