people here don't want to spend. they assume every draft pick is a home run. i dk what you've been looking at but WE CAN'T DRAFT. Spend the money on a skill position. Just b/c we did it once with Keyshawn 25 years ago doesn't mean it can't be done again.

You seem to forget the years and years we've been hampered due to massive contracts. Yeah, he's a perfect shiny toy, but we need to build a franchise, not buy one star.

Hill was still on his rookie deal, then they paid him on a shorter term deal and didn’t win again until he left. They absolutely made the right call letting him go, they’ve got 2 SBs to show for it lol and the most recent one with significant significant contributions on the defensive side of the ball from players they got from trading Hill away. If they kept Hill their OL would be an absolute mess and Chris Jones probably would’ve been gone already.

Paying WRs massive contracts just makes zero sense

Hill was on a rookie deal but the rest isn’t true at all. Hill’s cap hit was $6M for 2022 and $12M for 2023. They would not have had any issue in the past two SBs affording Hill. McDuffie is the only guy they got on D that contributed. It’s almost silly to say they would have better without Hill considering they had WR issues/drops all year:

The OL is not a mess because they drafted Humphrey and Smith instead of TMJ and a long snapper. The OL has nothing to do with Hill and the improvement on D has very little to do with Hill. I know KC won the SBs but they would have won them with Hill as well and frankly would have been way better this year. They would have dominated with that D and Hill on offense. They won in spite of their WRs being liabilities. It wasn’t like the Chiefs barnstormed their way to the SB win.

If we still can’t draft with Morgan (I wanted a proven drafter), trading for JJ means nothing. Sorry, but drafting well is the only thing that will change our situation. Drafting poorly means JJ would be a complete waste.

Not gonna get further into it as this isn’t a Chiefs board but it’s quite clear you haven’t followed the Chiefs and their moves closely

Some of yall need to learn the difference between 2-15 and 7-10....this team needs literally 7 or 8 upgrades to make the Playoffs at all...2-3 stars to make a real run.  Draft picks are the most valuable commodity we have right now....we got into this mess because we didn't treat them like that...now you wanna give em away to rent a guy for 2-3 years.  You know he wouldn't sign a long term deal here.

Yea...Look at KC...they have 20m to spend and have all their picks...its how you build.

it's because we know the reality of the situation. we aren't one or two players away from being really competitive. if we blow our load on one elite player, that's going to hurt our chances of getting more good players to fill in the ranks.

you go all in for one and it makes you really top heavy. top heavy things fall/fail easier.

That can be true for the player as well. You don't think Jefferson makes this offense a lot better?

We have traded away all our elite talent. That has got us the worst record in football. People wonder why we aren't relevant because we have no elite players.

You look at the 49ers roster and how they pay multiple elite players, but you're telling me we can't afford 1 elite player?

There isn’t much I wouldn’t give up for JJ.

This organization can’t draft worth a damn so I don’t overly care about draft picks. Trade for established players is our only hope.

Unless of course you want another Mingo in the 2nd round this year.

JJ will fetch at minimum 2 first rounders.

Whichever QB we draft 1st overall in 2025 will at least have a legit WR

Eh, we have like the third most cap space and almost none of it is spent on offense. We can afford to break the bank on one of the pieces we’re missing the most on the team. We don’t have THAT many needs. A few needs: QB, a playmaker or two (WR among the biggest needs), an OL or two, some depth on defense. Otherwise it’s spots that could use an upgrade but not a need.

We don't have anything like the third most space.  It's more like 15th, with a bad and old roster that needs far, far more than one superstar receiver to make it competitive.

if he's wanting around $20mil...maybe.

maybe.

if he's wanting to be the top paid WR? nah.

He's not going to accept $20 mil per. The tag amount is higher than that, and he's a top three receiver in the game.

It makes a huge difference how you structure the deals - Purdy is costing them only $1M this year....Aiyuk $14, Bosa $14.7.  Not saying we can't get multiple stars but our contracts at the moment have us locked up.
