I have another proposed bet for you.....

I will bet you that the Panthers DL has more sacks in 2010 than they did in 2009. Care to wager?

Sure. Sig bet? No way the DL will.....the team could have more b/c at some point they will just have to get out of what Meeks/Fox prefer and bring the LBs at a greater pace and gamble.

rucker was never replaced - DL got worse

jenkins was never replaced - DL got worse

pep won't beh replaced - DL will get worse

you can't argue that. Now, there are zero legit playmakers to help mask and make up for how average the rest of the line is....the entire line is average(and that is being nice).

Just my opinion but Charles Johnson is better than Brayton, Louis Lenard is better than the old Hollis Thomas and the injured Kemo and Tank Tyler and Ed Johnson could both be potentially better than Lewis. I like Tank, I think he is good. I watch a lot of Chiefs games since I live next to KC. The only thing that worries me is no Peppers but hopefully Brown can step up and the play decent, I see the line as a whole getting better. I'd imagine they will pick up another DE to help us out in that area. I worry more about chemistry not really the actual players we have.

The Panthers just lost their starting DL for the 2008 season (Brayton, Peppers, Lewis, Kemo) in which they were the #2 seed. When Lewis and Kemo were injured for the Giants game, and the D-Line was horrible. The Panthers had big dreams in the 2009 season until Kemo went down. That was a huge disappointment to this team. When Kemo was out in 2009, the D-Line was horrible until they signed Thomas. Now they lose all 4, and we expect to be better?

I understand why the Panthers let these 4 go, but my problem is that they really don't appear to have too many options in replacing them. The Panthers have limited draft picks, and don't appear to be going after any big time free agents. I know Johnson looked good in his rotation role, but he would have been the starter if the Panthers thought he was better than Brayton.

Fox has always had a 'strong-defense' + 'strong running game' style. If the Panthers can't stop the run, it will be very difficult for them to have a strong running game because they will be behind in every game.

show you? If you don't realize that the Panther DL went from the best in the NFL....then you lose Rucker, Jenkins, Pep (and never legitimately replace any of them) that the DL in Carolina has gotten worse and worse on your own......there is no way to show or convince you.

you just making sh1t up as you go along? Nostradamus.

please. funny, how you don't accuse those claiming " this DL is gonna be so much better than those in recent years b/c of or youth, no names, and scrubs we picked up last offseason" crowd of making shiat up.

sometimes you don't have to look at every aspect of your team and try to hype it up. There is nothing to hype up on the DL...realistically it has potential to be the weakest in the NFL. Brown and Johnson will really have to step up to keep it repsectable or someone will have to become a player there is not much reason to believe they will be. It can happen....but there are more reasons to believe this will be a weak DL if nothing changes.

I'm cool with this. I'm looking past 2010 and think Carolina is making all the right moves. I just don't think it is realitic to hope for too much in this upcoming seaosn.

And there it is. We have essentially lost one player on defense that can't be replaced in Julius Peppers. The DL will get worse, but it wasn't anything special anyway. And yet, we still turned in the 4th ranked pass defense and the 9th best overall defense.

Now we're younger and a year into the new and better system. We've kept our leadership and our strengths. Overall, while the line may have gotten worse the defense as a whole isn't necessarily going to suffer THAT much.

And the offense should be better with Moore and our injured players back.

And Special Teams had nowhere to go but up, right?

And our schedule is easier.

Gloom and doom my ass...

I remember a defense called that back in the 70's. Kinda took everyone by surprise as to how good they were.

That's cool. I can name like 10 no name defenses from every season of the NFL that have sucked balls.

The denial amongst these forums is rapant. Kinda like last year when I went at it page after page with Blheys or w/e his name was and qUASI yoda about how Delhomme would fack us over in 2009.

I would help CRA but why bother? As much as it stings I'm afraid we will be proven right this fall.

How did they rank 4th and 9th ?

Rucker & Jenkins were never replaced and the team got worse!:blush2:

They were also better the season after Jenkins left if memory serves me .

One could also name defenses every season with big name players that did not show up

It Is What It Is

Since you have spoken on this and with your track record of being spot-on with your predictions in the past...........my hope for a successful 2010 season has been diminished.

    • No team in the league would sit back and say Mays outplayed Hunt or Lewis so its a typical case of stats (or ratings) not telling the story. The team also was in a much better position at the end of the year, where the begging was very rough all around. Everyone was learning the new scheme, calls, learning how new teammates played in real games and all of that changed the second half of the year. We started getting actual production from the run game and receivers and everyone’s play changed from the beginning of the year.   As a side note Mays goes down or another linemen who is coming in? We have zero depth and Brady Christiansen will be hitting free agency to be a starter elsewhere.  With as many holes as we have it makes sense as long as it’s team friendly deal. I’m not opposed to drafting someone as well, but we know what we are getting from Corbett when healthy and he’s above average playing multiple positions. Maybe they have it as an open competition between him and Mays, loser is the prime backup for G and C
