Steve Smith or Larry Fitzgerald

Recommended Posts

You guys must be delusional. Don't get me wrong, Fitzgerald is a fantastic receiver, but there is no one in the NFL that does what Smitty does. Forget the fact that he's a foot shorter than everyone else and has no logical business making the plays that he does, the man commands so much respect and fear from opposing teams that he doesn't even need to catch the ball to have a huge impact on the game.

Fitzgerald and Boldin are both excellent players, but Steve Smith is a legend in Carolina. Time after time he comes up with the big play, takes the ball away from two and three defenders, makes the clutch catch when we need it the most and he has won countless games for us. Maybe Fitzgerald has equal speed and hands, but Smitty has the intangibles that make him better than any WR in the game today.

Steve Smith a cornerback? and Fitz makes jump catches for a living as well. Everyone gets on Delhomme for his "hand grenade" throws, but Warner chucks it up there for his WRs as well. Fitz is fast, has long arms, catches the ball with his hands and not his body (thus you won't see many drops nor fumbles) and he's the BEST route runner in the league.

Steve Smith is athletic, fast as light, agile as a cat, angry as a bear and as dependable as a toyota. however, I give Fitz the nod simply because he beats any cornerback he goes against. Case in point, Marcus Trufant...thoroughly destroyed. Smith on the other hand doesn't play too great against corner backs that use the arm-bar technique. Case in point, Nnamdi Asomugha, Leigh Boden

He said that he didn't even know how to run a route until this year when Kurt taught him what the QB wants. Steve is the best receiver in the league hands down IMO. He makes the big catch EVERY SINGLE TIME even when everyone in the stadium knows that the pass is going to him. Fitz cannot match his quickness or his heart and if you're going up for a jump ball its an even match with the two because of Steve's elevation. The only thing that Larry has going for him over Steve in my opinion is his age...don't get me wrong Larry is a great receiver but Steve is the best hands down.

Fitz does not have smiths speed. Speed kills! I would call it a draw and only take Fitz now because he is a lot younger.

Did I miss a memo or something? When exactly did Fitzgerald become the greatest wide receiver to ever put on a helmet? I'm not saying that we, as panther fans, can't say that a player from another team is superior to a panther, but, although there is no real way to determine the superior player, I don't understand how so many of us can say Fitzgerald is easily better. I know he's a great wide receiver and one of the best in the game right now, but I don't see how he's in any way easily (key word) better than Smitty. What exactly has he accomplished that Smith hasn't? It's like saying so-so is the best heavyweight fighter in the world, even though he doesn't hold the belt (okay, that's a bit of a stretch even for me :P)

Anyways, It's all about production, isn't it? Fitzgerald doesn't have better numbers than Smitty even now, so where exactly is all this coming from? Again, I have no problem with y'all (cards fans too) picking Fitzy and I know this is ultimately unimportant, I just want to know how you came to your decision oh so easily. Shouldn't the seasoned veteran be considered better until the new guy proves everyone otherwise? I'm just wondering what exactly he has done to change everyone's minds. Steve Smith is one of the most explosive players in the league and he gives DCs nightmares in the offseason. He is the ultimate game changer, and far more clutch, so Smitty does get my pick, but that's not really important to my question. :)

Actually, Fitz has been widely regarded as one of the best route runners in the league. That was what he was revered for in College, and if you watch him on film, you'd see how precise he is. No one attacks a ball harder on a curl route. Smith is a good route runner, however, I doubt a lot of people are going to say Steve Smith is one of the best route runners in the league. As is the case with a lot of things he does, Smith makes up for his deficiences with pure speed and will power

Smith makes the big catch EVERY time, absolutely true. However, he will drop quite a few of the routine catches. I have seen Fitz drop only 2 balls in his entire career. I'm sure he's dropped more, but its a hell of a rarity. Smith is fast, agile, quick, and great after the run, but Fitz is no snail either, however I do admit he's not as great after the catch, but Fitz has simply beat down every CB that came his way...even the so called elite corners

How does he not have better numbers

Rk Player Team Pos Rec Yds Avg Yds/G Lng TD 20+ 40+ 1st 1st% FUM

Larry Fitzgerald ARI WR 96 1,431 14.9 89.4 78T 12 20 5 66 68.8 1

Steve Smith CAR WR 78 1,421 18.2 101.5 65T 6 23 6 59 75.6 1

Looks loke more yards twice the td same amount of fumbles. mind you we have another pro bowl wide out stealing someof his numberson the other side named Boldin. You may have heard of him
