Is J-Rich setting Fox, err us, up?

top dawg

Are you guys just missing the point? I am saying that Richardson is more than likely going to give Fox an extension, even if the season is sub par in the minds of the fans.

I think we are... I don't really see your point in your original post.

Either way, I think it's very possible Fox may get an extension, no matter the outcome of the season.

I hope you are right.. that we give Fox an extension. I really like Fox and think he is a great coach. I know I am in the minority on the topic. The players respect him and he has not lost the team. I think he has what it takes to get us back to the big dance.

Maybe it's the phrase "setting Fox up" that is throwing us off -- did you mean it in a negative way (in the way the phrase is most often used)?

No, Double B, I did not necessarily mean it in a negative way. It's a play on words. It's more about getting us prepared for Fox's extension. The only way I can see it as negative is if someone just flat out wants Fox gone, regardless.

Is that what you guys do...read the title...and bring out the flame throwers? LOL

lol, no, I read through every single page of a thread before I post. In the rare event I post before I reach the end (I sometimes feel the need to reply to a really retarded post ASAP - not often though), I go back and read through the rest and add to my post.

Yes.

No, but really I was thrown off by the title. If you're setting someone up, you're usually setting them up for failure. I see where you're going now.

I'll agree that if he's had a hand in the latest cuts and non-signings, than it's due to setting up the franchise for future success. I don't know that he's going out of the way to secure Fox's job for him, nor do I think Fox stays if he goes 8-8 next year.

I just have a feeling that Fox is staying unless we go way south of 8-8. J-Rich is a loyal guy. How can he get rid of Fox knowing that he (Richardson) is the one making the ultimate calls?

To be honest, I wanted Fox gone when the season ended (probably before that), but I'm a realist. I am warming up to the idea that he just may deserve to be extended if we have any semblance of success next year.

On a very simplistic level it's very obvious. Reduce as much going out as you can. Keep young, cheap and hopefully hungry guys. Let Fox coach his last year so you aren't paying him to play golf or surf, plus the future is gaining valuable experience.

Give Coach Cowher a lot of room with the next Cap. Help out your fellow owners by NOT jacking up the market for FA's.

Keep costs down for two years if there's a lockout or be ready to go next year if there's football. Yes, that's ONE or TWO years from now.

Fixed

If he really wanted Fox gone that badly, he could just fire him.

It'd be silly to tank the team just to have the coach leave.

For the last time: This thread is about setting Fox up for success. Setting the fans up for an extension of Fox. No where in the post have I said that rRichardson is setting Fox up to fire him. To the contrary

Damn! You guys need to read before you draw conclusions. I expect more from some of you guys.

I wouldn't say he is setting him up for failure...

just kidding...to help out your theory Top Dawg...say JR was taking a lot of the players that John Fox was too loyal to, maybe to help him take on a more competitive approach with young players to assist with the tunnel vision that he had to help ole Foxy win...maybe...?

Yes, Jerry is a very loyal guy to those who are loyal to him---those who he feels is doing a good job. To this day, I think that Richardson thinks that Fox has done a good job overall. I am not saying that he is right or wrong, but I feel that he perceives Fox as one of his own. That being said, I don't think that he has any intention of letting Fox go. He has put himself in the middle of the mix, and fancies himself as helping Fox (and Hurney) come up with solutions to help the team improve for the long term. It's a "team" effort in his mind. But, of course, he still probably had to "gently prod" Fox (and Hurney) in the right direction as far as "out with the old, in with the new." Unlike others, I don't think there is any possibility that the Big Cat thinks that the team is prepared to go to the championship, much less the Super Bowl this coming year.

Like I said before, he is not thinking about the short term, but the longer term forseeable future. So, I don't think there is anyway that he is going to get rid of Fox, unless the team tanks. And I don't see this happening. The probability of Fox getting extended, under these circumstances, is much greater than the team tanking in my estimation.

So, everyone (Fox haters included) should mentally prepare themselves for Fox over the long haul.

They are trying to run Fox out of town. I talked to a friend of mine who works with the steelers and basically knew every free agent move that was going to happen and he said that the anthers were trying to run him out and then hell broke loose in charlotte. "Why not fire him now if you want him gone?" Because 1. That is more lost money 2. They would have to hire a new coach and pay him an extended contract which richardson is obviously not willing to do with all the CBA questions. There was no reason to cut delhomme this year financially. So basic reasoning shows this was a jab at delhommes greatest supporter. Richardson is an extremely smart guy and looks to be setting him and the team up for 2011. But if anyone wants to open their eyes and really see whats going on this is it. It's not that the organization realized that Matt Moore is the key. Sorry I know that this will piss off 98% of this forum.
