It appears Smith may have indeed forced Jake's release..

Why can't you guys separate Steve Smith the athlete from Steve Smith the person? I don't think anyone on here would argue that he is anything but a premier athlete, especially for his size. The guy is literally juiced up, not on roids, but on old fashioned rage. He's a throwback football player.

But to then say things like "Steve Smith is a class act" or "Steve Smith deserves this or that" is laughable. Steve Smith is an absolute turd of a human being. Does he do nice things for lower income kids? Yes. Does he say funny things sometimes? Uh huh. But he treats so many people like crap for the worst of all reasons...because he can. Teammates. Staff. Fans. Reporters. People who do him favors because he's Steve Smith.

You're so damn wrapped up in your 89 jerseys that you refuse to accept that the same traits that make him stand out on the field also make him hard to stand off it.

Have you forgotten that Jake was one of the teammates who stood up for him when he punched Ken Lucas? Or that Jake has never said a bad word about him when reporters went fishing for one?

How dare you meat. He's an angel and he walks on water. There is nothing bad about him. Period.

No one is worshipping Smith in this thread, and I agree that the "class act" stuff is a little much, however: did Steve punch your mom or something?

Just get sick of all the "God I love Smitty" talk on here. Seen him treat people like dirt so many times. Makes me wonder about people's priorities.

I'm with you (as evidenced by my earlier post laughing at everyone defending Smith).

The man's one of my favorite players, but that's not enough for me to approve of some of the things he says or does when I never would for "lesser" players.

Remember the Lucas incident, and how many people attributed it to Smith's "competitive spirit"? When the team bounced back stronger from it, I swear it seemed more people around here attributed it to Smith's actions than Lucas'.

My priorities are W's.

Smith helps this team get those. He could punch babies in the face on his way to getting those W's and I would be ok with that.

Smitty is what anyone would want as a football player on the field, that's why he gets praised. Now, he has had his anger management issues. Just like a competitive spirit brings out the best in some people, it can bring out the worst at times. He isn't perfect, and he will be the first to tell you that, but if his victims can forgive him, then so can we.
